The HOK base colors dry very quickly. The clear coat takes a good 24 hours before you really want to touch it. The best place to buy HOK is from www.coastairbrush.com and you can buy it in small amounts. The only problem that I have found with it is that is is not the cheapest paint to use. We all would love to be able to paint like A1 Paint Ninja. I know alot of time and patients must go into each one of his cars. I checked out there site, very nice but where do you view the color chips for the different HOK colors they sell? Steve

Hillbilly Kustoms, I look at it another way....if you can't be fast, look good going slow.... Good point. That's why I insist on never finger painting my cars. ;D

There could be an award for the best use of Pink on a car I'll just cheer whoever does it on from my desktop.

Does any one know if adding Flop Control will help keep pearl powders better suspended in color base coat ?

Does any one know if adding Flop Control will help keep pearl powders better suspended in color base coat ? Flop control usually effects pearls and metallics by controlling how much they stand up or lay down. It will even them out a bit as well, and keep the metallics from being splotchy. At least the PPG, Diamont and Spies Hecker stuff does. What are you wanting to accomplish? There may be other ways to get it to work for you. Kurt

Does any one know if adding Flop Control will help keep pearl powders better suspended in color base coat ? If your trying to make the pearls have more bling bling.... If you are using automotive paints base coat clear coat type paint then I would get some mid coat balancer and and mix your pearls in that and then turn up your air pressure a fog spray dryer coats that will make your pearls stand up and have more bling bling power.... Then let them dry for 30 minutes and put the first coat of clear on light covering the car but don't make it have any real shine to it... then wait for 30 minutes and come and put and nice flow wet coat on it... letting the first dry coat of clear dry 30 minutes will help hold the pearls standing up more and give you that little extra bling that you are looking for.... If you spray the first coat of clear to wet it can make the pearls lay down to much.... Also when you apply pearls hold the gun back farther away for the surface and with the air up more.... fog it on ... don't get the pearl coats wet.... you will see the difference when trying this technque... fast back and forth motions over the car and keep the gun moving.. you can put pearls on in one application... If you want more pearl then just keep the gun moving over it more times but try not to get it wet looking when doing it... Let me know what you think...... I think you will like......

I have been sitting here reading all these posts about painting, and one thing has became painfully evident. I'm going to have to make my cars really fast, so you guys can't tell my painting skills are horrible. ;D

Naw, painting isn't as bad as it sounds. The easiest way to get started may be to find a color that you want in a color book at your local paint supply house. Once you get the hang of spraying, start messing around with different techniques and see what you come up with. A lot of times, I've found cool stuff out by accident.
You can Dooo it! Just wear a respirator. Painting is the fun part, don't stress.

DQ, I gotta have cars looking GOOD. When I'm DEAD LAST in 2 classes... ....paint & design are my only saving graces
That's right! If it looks like it's going 100 mph sitting still I figure my car might trick the timer and get a first. I'm gonna be happy if I get my first attempt safely to Draper, after that I'll be able to breathe again.
