For anyone that wants to order the Microlux drill press, now would be a good time to do it. They have them on sale for $131.00 on their website. That is about $45 cheaper than what I paid for mine a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the price heads up. I just ordered one as my drill press is giving me fits and its a great excuse to buy one - my wife even thought so (knew there was a rason I married her ;D ).
Gotta love the smell of ground axle at 4 in the morning...

Unit arrived today. So far, I'm impressed. Test drilled a piece of pine. Drilled through from both sides, holes seemed to line up perfect.
Can't find my dial indicator to check the sqareness of the chuck to the table. Anyone have any issues with theirs being out?

Anyone prefer using the Proxxon without the x-y table for use with the block?

I just got my proxxon in the mail yesterday. I took it out of the box and found out it is damaged. the table has a big crack where it is connected to the arm bar. it rocks back and forth on the bench. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. Hopefully I can get a new one without a big hassle.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I hope you get it sorted out. It reminds me of when I got my first Mini-lathe, it wouldn't even turn on. Luckily, I got my refund and then decided to go with a Sherline.

I found mine on ebay for around 200 bucks. My dad has the same exact one downstairs below my track and workshop in his clock shop. I was use to using it and he has alot of stuff I can use if I need to. Keep a check on ebay. The first one I had trouble with was sort of like a Grizzly/Harbor Freight type. My dad told to get a Sherline and be done with it. Needless to say he was right.

I have a proxxon and also have the X-Y table. I do not use the X-Y table when I use the block though. I have mounted a square to the base for my stopping point. It seems to work for me.

My drill press is green and weighs an even ton. Fully adjustable table and head. Not very practicle for a garage, though.

CWO,
Thank you. That is exactly the issue I was seeing. How did you mount the square to the base?

I drilled a hole in the square where the factory slide goes. This way all I have to do is loosen the screw and I can adjust the square up or down. For fine adjustments I move the head of the drill from side to side. I also have a 7 inch long 1/8th inch piece of tungsten that I use instead of the small round stock that come with the block.
