Hello Everyone,
How much does everyone allow for the weight of paint?I know this will vary substantially from each builder according to their exact procedure, but I am sure everyone has a number they like to get to with their rough weight before paint.
I will make provisions to be able to add a little weight after final paint but would like to keep this to a min.

The yellow pearl didn't cover very well, had to put 5 coats of base color, 2 of clear.
Roadrunner has 4 grams paint, 10 grams clear. Went WAY overboard with the clear.......But it looks like a sheet of plastic.
Demon has about 4 grams color/clear.

From now on I will allow at least .5 ounce for paint and body work.

Our final weight before paint and widening the rear was 4.5, I forgot to compensate for the extra wood. We ended up weighing 5.25 after paint. We drilled out the extra. The paint and added wood were .75 oz. Gotta get the number down a bit more on the next car. Actually, having a scale at home would make that process a lot easier and acurate, we'll be getting one soon.

I wonder if grams is better to weight a car in or ounces. Have a scale that reads both (just the push of a button). If grams is better to get close to 5 ounces (some scales will read 5 ounces but caris really 5.1 ounces)then perhaps grams is better??? have a car, before adding lead that weights in at 1.25 ounces with wheels. wonder what is standard weight of a competive car before adding weight (car is 3/16" thick the entire length. added lots of lead in front of rear axle.(the lighter the car the more weight in rear=faster car??

The Door Sammr I just sent in had 4 grams of paint. This will give another perspective on paint weight when painting a plastic body......(less is needed)
(Royal Flush did not make it........built a faster car called Wild Card)

simple fix paint then weight ahhhhhhhh no extra drilling or fussing I use molten lead (tire weights) poured into routed cavity. Then paint/clear. If I'm over, just flip & drill out some lead till it totals 141.48grams. My PWD budget won't allow for 'W' MUCH harder to adjust weight with tungsten, VERY difficult to cut or drill....

Well, Glenn ran into a problem in Lima dealing with the grams vs. ounces.. The rules read 5 oz. and all his/our cars were 5oz. However, at the weigh in, they were measuring in grams, and most, if not all, were just above the 141.25, or whatever the equivalent is...... so, moral of the story is to not exceed the lesser of the two. 5 oz = 141.747615625 grams
142 grams= 5.008902596 oz.
That's why I try to get as close as possible to 141.48 grams, if the scale is "tight" it will round-down to 141 grams. Under the PDDR specs of: 5oz (142 grams) 141.48 grams = 4.99 oz

I have NEVER worried about weight. Usually, my precut weighted cars will be around 4.2. I always have a few holes drilled out for Tg beads...then adjust when ALL is finished. If worse comes to worse, you can always add a small flat washer...It should rarely if never affect clearance. Having said that, I have wondered if we hurt the cars performance by adding so much weight to the "entire" car instead of allowing it to be more concentrated in the back.
