I have read alot of guys soaking axles in denatured alcohol. But when using these axle do you necessarily have to re polish over time

It can help keep rust and film from forming. I would only do it short term. Best to dry axels well after polish then just touch them up with quick buff in my experience of costly mistakes.
Trust me - rebuff is way easier than restarting all over from rust pits.
Curious what works for others...

I'm no pro. I have been hard at this for a year and honestly have not tried to build what you would call a fast car in any of the established classes that exist today. My focus has been working with my son to test many different things out to try and make a car built to our local Cub Scout rules the fastest it can be. Anyway, what I have noticed is that the alcohol is great for cleaning an axle. However, when we stored axles in little jars of alcohol for a longer period of time, say three weeks, we observed a milky white cloud in the alcohol. Not sure what it was, but I had to re-polish the axles. Maybe that is better than getting rust on them.
