The whole subject of 'Pinks' racing, brings a question to mind.
What do you do with Retired Cars?
Do you reuse certain parts? Strip out the precious 'W',or favorite set of wheels?
Proudly display them? Sell them on *gasp* Ebay ?
Tell us your story.......

Good question, Rick. Being fairly new to this, I wondered the same thing just yesterday, when I needed a half ounce of W. I looked a retired car and thought, "Should I? Is that like grave-robbing?". But I did it anyway.

I have never broken cars down and re-used weights before. I have about 10-12 cars piled in a shoebox, only recently have I removed wheels and axles from some of them and tried them on different cars for testing. Some remain intact as they were. I have built a few that never made to the 42 foot aluminum track at PDDR, some because of alignment problems, some because in the end they weren't fast enough.
Good Thread, Fast!

we have a shelf where we put all the retired and 'didnt make the races' cars. of course, i steal the wheels and axles from them and put on rejects. no need in wasting the good stuff by letting it sit on a shelf
my wife has went from saying 'what a nice display, to --- you guys are obsessed with these little cars'.. just last night the boy and I were sitting on the back porch with the new wood and our dremel, making the next car. we got sighs from not only my wife, but my daughter too. Neither have any interest in making a car with us. must be a dad/son thing (at my house anyway)

I have between 10 -15 cars that I keep in a cabinet in the shop. Some of them were from when I started, a couple are my daughters AWANA cars and some of them look really great but didnt measure up. I have quite a few that have tons of body work, paint, etc. and look great but are useless because of things like axle holes are off and things like that. The only sentimental ones are my daughters awana cars. The one from 3 years ago was the first one Ive made since being a kid. We won first place in T&T age group. It looks rough, Its a fat realistic type car painted red, with permanent marker flames. It has about 15 holes drilled in the bottom where I put in fishing weights. Ive came a long way in making these little cars look better, Im still working on the speed though, Great thread
