I would love to try and build a modified, any advice/tips on where to begin. i.e needle axles, wheels, weight placement. do the same principles apply to these cars as the stock cars?

Parrot,
Depends on which class you would want to run in with the axle type. One thing to keep in mind is it is much easier to go larger than it is to go smaller as fas as the axle holes within the block of wood. For a Modified, most of the other things are the same as a stock car. Try it, you'll like it.

You could start by building a mod with standard axles..get yourself some mod wheels and the rest would be pretty much the same as building a stock car except you can extend the wheelbase..

Parrott. I have not entered any races myself yet. It turns out that that cars that my daughters used in their State AWANA Grand Prix ONLY qualify in the modified class since the wheels are trimmed. The axles are standard however, so Im not sending this car in with confidence that it will win first. Im just going to see how it does compared to the others.
The car is build like any other though in terms of weight placement, etc.
You can shoot me a PM after May race if you want and I will let you know how it does.
Thanks RC
