i've been reading around on this forum and need some clarification. i see some people talk about leaving the paint off the side of the car where the wheel touchs and others saying paint it. why? any explanations, comments, and suggestions are welcome. another one for anyone who can answer, how much time is bending the rear axels going to cost me? i have a cheap chinese Clarke drill press(need to buy a better one in the near future) that the head and bit walk around on so drilling the car at 1 1/2 deg does not work that well. this weekend is my final testing for my first sub 3 attempt next weekend. i need all the speed tricks i haven't thought of or read about yet to come my way. HELP Please!!!!!!!! well it realy does not matter that much because like i once head some one say, "if it don't go fast chrome it and if it is fast it better be pretty" i got that covered. ;D

HELP !!!!!!! i am about to pull my hair out of my head. i dialed in my back wheels after 3 hours on the board using a straight sacrificial FDW, many bends and about 15-20 runs down the track. they are very good and i did correct for the lift by using a corect sized FDW BUT............now that i have installed my new factory bent SG93 axel and exteme 2.2g wheel for the FDW it sqeels like a pig with a gentle nudge tuning on the flat section of the track. it turns mid 2.50's on my 35ft best tack. my graphite cars with my home done BSA axels and wheels run mid to super low 2.40's. what is the squeel from?? i love the jet sound of the edges of the wheels on the track. but if i nudge it on the track to see how it is touching it turns fom a jet to a pig and gives everyone the chills just like finger nails going down the blackboard. it runs very consistantly at 2.57 (ready for the turtle race with no added fixtures). i know how to build a RR but this does not look right on the track. the FDW seems to be dragging in the front rather than rail ridding. ive tuned and tuned and tuned but the squeel wont go away and if it does go away the car slows down and as the drift gets closer to where it should be for a 5/8 COM the squeel gets worse and it gets slower. im not talking about the tread rubbing its NAILS ON A CHALK BOARD!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!! before i go bald or my hair turns prematurly gray(faster than 3 kids and a husband will cause) i am going from sloppy BSA axles and graphite to PRO and now im lost

Ok started out using a sg93 prebent from ___ with his extreme wheel, also as my sacrificial wheel, I swopt the sg93 for the bent sg91 and some of us know where I got that. The squeal was reduced but did not go away but I did gain .06? I know the jet sound that you were talking about and I love it. My graphite cars make that sound too. But the sound that I’m talking about is on a low speed flat test with a nudge. It sounds like an axel riding the rail digging in. ouch if you want to experience the sound send a three wheeler down the track sideways. Why did I gain speed when I switched from the sg93 to the sg91 on the FDW? What is the squeal and how do I make it stop? I know that if I use my home done axels and wheels (same OD) it will turn in the 2.40s easy with graphite but I need to be in the low 2.3xx’s before I mail it. And everyone says that oil is faster than graphite but I’m not seeing it. What am I missing in this picture? Any and all help is appreciated.

Derby Freak It seems that you are hinting at what I have been thinking. “ the loose axles are forgiving on the tune”. I have been looking at the car and thinking….. (This is going to suck!). I have already glued the back fenders on the car. They are glued about .020 inches away from the back wheels. That means that if I so much as look at the back wheel alignment, they will touch the fenders……………… I think the tight 93s should generate a better time than the 91s in the end, but I think they are going to be 10X harder to tune to peek performance. I have about 20 hrs in the build, and a good 6 hrs in tuning. I think I will go look at something else fore a time. A fresh set of eyes in the morning could make a world of difference. If I don’t get the darn thing running in the mid 2.40s by noon Monday, I think I will see how hard it is to get the Teflon and oil off, and see how it does on graphite. Success!!!!!! This morning my husband yelled at me telling me I must have done something wrong. I marked the rear axles, pulled them all and repreped them by hand. Then I repreped the wheels and installed the three wheels back on the car with the sg93s. I’m impressed. i think i made a boo-boo with the prep last time because without any tuning and oil not set i was able to cut .10 off. I’m thinking I can hit 2.33 with my 35 ft Best Track with some tuning. (Hope it does not take as long as last time.) I guess I will find out tonight after the kids are in bed and I can set up the track through the house. It takes up my living and family room and I have a one year old who would love to go down with the cars or unplug my timer. I hope I can have it all done by Thursday so that I can overnight it on Friday. Hope it makes it in time cutting it close.
By the way how do I put a pic, without an outside source, in my post? I have done it before and can't seem to remember how.

Also....congrats on cutting off .10 seconds....thats a very nice improvement.
