Has anyone tried using their digital camera's Macro (close-up) setting to take close-ups of axles to evaluate your polishing quality? I copied the photos to my computer and you can then zoom in until the axles look as big as baseball bats on the screen. The images will be in perfect focus and reveal how well the "upper end" abrasives are working. (BTW, he 91 SGA's look really terrific at this extreme magnification!) A "poor man's microscope"!

I use inexpensive loupes from Harbor Freight.

I bought a 40X inspection scope off ebay. What looks like mirror to the naked eye can look like a rasp under a scope. I would really like to see what a 91sga looks like zoomed in. Could you crop the pics on your pc and post them? I would like to see how my axles measure up. I bought a camera attachment to go with my scope but its not worth a flip, cant focus at all.

Thanks Guys! I need all the help I can get! Actually, the 91SGA's are light year's ahead of anything else I've used over the years and are very consistent. (A credit to Jewkes Engineering's commitment to quality!) To polish the 91SGA's, I used a dremel tool, ___'s Sub-3 kit, ___'s Zero Friction Axle Polish, Mother's Chrome Polish, and cleaned with acetone.
After I mount the graphite-burnished wheels, the car has to be on a very level table or it will "creep" downhill due to practically no friction to hold it in place. Really cool! I help out with workshops and as an "inspection and check-in" volunteer with several packs in my area, so I get "track time" by racing in the adult races. I have had successes and am learning so that I can build a car for PDDR Stock. Based on my calculations, I am about still about 12 inches behind ___'s LA2 Stock record, so I obviously have a lot more to learn!! javascript:add("%20;D")

You need a microscope to see what is really there. I have a 10x loupe that I used to use for viewing slides. It has a very fine focusing range and I find it hard to keep an axle in it. if your not in focus you won't be able to tell. I have wanted to get a microscope to attach to a monitor of some sort. Squinting through a loupe for an hour and everything is blurry !
