My son and I are working on his scout car on a very small budget. We spend most of it on the "block" and the axle polish kit from Jewkes this fall. I have a set of axles that I bought last year before I found this forum. Anyway I forgot who I got them from but they are the ones with the 4 grooves cut in them. We were polishing them today and I noticed that when they turned them down they made the diameter smaller were the wheel rides. I know this is not good. We polished them with the setup from Jewkes. Now would I be better off using the nails that come in the box or should we stick with the grooved axles? Also what are you guys using to do the bore prep? I have the Novus2 but cant find a good rod to make a good bore prep. Thanks. Car is a 3wheel RR 1"com if that helps

I would use the grooved axles. Ones in the box are pretty bad...

5 sec with each grit. The axels were turned to thin I think.
