Ok fellas I was messing around with my start gate on my Besttrack. I never liked the way it slammed the gate open. There is a little foam pad on the hinge that is supposed to dampen the vibration of the gate when it opens, but the mounting screws are longer than the pad is thick, so it does nothing. I tried thicker pads, but then the gate gets a bounce so it can come back up and hit the bottom of the car. I was about to add a couple more springs to try to get rid of the bounce, but before I did that, I disconnected the spring to see how it would fall just by gravity. It fell pretty freely on its own, it was smooth and had no bounce. It hit the new pad I put on and did not have the slam I had become acustomed to. So I tried running a couple cars on it. I tried a supermod (needle) and a stocker. Both cars were just sitting on the shelf and were not tuned and lubed. But the interesting thing is, both cars ran .03 faster with the spring disconnected. So anyone out there wanna give it a try and see if you get similar results?

I do not have a best track, but a self built wood track. While building the track I noticed that when the gate would slam down hard the cars would actually bounce the front wheels. I stretched two large rubber bands across the bottom of the track to catch the pins falling and the cars stopped bouncing. I am sure that the pins on my track were hitting way too hard, but that may very well be what is happening. Just my 2cents from an amateur.

Nice first post pwddad.... Stop by often... Thanks, Just my experience from my personal test track. Our Pack has a 32' best track. I notice some starts were better than others on it also. Now I know why. This site and members have been very helpful. I bought a lot of junk before finding this site.
