Hi All!!
Getting ready for our district pinewood derby. Need to know what to do to the car when I get it out of the impound just before the race.
Thanks in advance,

Everything Mood said. ;D
Are you running graphite or oil?

running graphite. I remember seeing some talk about a magic eraser on the wheels, but I am not sure if it should be used on the wheels wet or dry?

Oh forgot, the car is already impounded, but the scout master who has the car is friend.
Should I take the wheel off to relube or use some other technique?

I have never used the erase marker thing. However you do want to clean the treads on the rear wheels.
Do not pull axles to re-lube. This could destroy your alignment.
How many heats will you need to run and are the axles grooved?
For re-lube hold the car on side in the air.
Place a puff or two of graphite at the axle head/outer hub. Flick wheel with finger a couple of times. Not a spin test just a small flick.
Repeat for each wheel...

A big thank you to all and especially W Racing, Acme, Mood, and 2Fast4You for all the help!!! We had a much better race than I anticipated. My son's car, which we built using the block and techniques presented in this forum, came in 4th place in a very competetive race. It was kind of strange as the day started off with 4 cars being dq'ed for excessive wheel base.
Our times on the 32 foot wooden track where 2.5094, 2.5131, 2.4936. The average time of his car was 2.5054. The 1st place cars average time was 2.4754.
Thinking about it, we had our COM at 5/8" in front of the back axle which was probably too agreesive for the wooden track as our car fish tailed a number of times during each of the three runs. We should have tried for one around 3/4" or more. The one thing I didn't do was consult you guys on the COM, which I will surely do next year.
I'll try to post a video of the race so you guys can break it down. For now, thanks to all. We really couldn't have done it without you all!!
Thanks,
Rick

An impotant detail for next year. You may have already have done so this year. It is important to narrow the front of the car so that the measurment from inside tread to inside tread is:
1 3/4"
(If rules allow this) .

I don't think the rules allow...but I have asked for our district to revisit the rules, so the future may hold that it will be legal.
The reason I asked is b/c we have a bunch of rules that are very difficult to enforce. Like: No purchased lathed wheels, No oil lube, can only sand wheels flat, four wheels must all sit flat on the track, and on and on.... I will need your help if I get on the committee so we can change the wheel to make it more competive and more fun!!!!
Thanks again to all!
Rick
