Hello, first post here.
I'm new to the sport, built a car with my son for his Scout race from info found on the good ol' net and won his pack and den so we are in route to the Regionals. Thanks to MB for Hire for some fine tuning info (luckily i live near by).
So I'm not touching his car besides checking alignment and lube but I'm building one for myself. 3 wheel RR.
My question is a friend told me he heard that you could tap the inside of the hub to help keep the graphite in the hub. I can see how the direction of the taped threads would effect how the wheel rides on the axle. I have forward and reverse thread taps. Seems to make sense and i can see the benefit of reduced contact with the axle as well.
Anyone try this?
Thanks Tim

I've tried it and it was slower, not to mention I ruined a perfectly good set of wheels. I say stick with getting your bores good and smooth, you want them to look like shiny glass. ;D

I also tried left and right tapping. It's not faster. Use Jewkes grooved axles. That alone reduces a ton of surface area.
