I've drilled out my axle holes with a #44 drill bit for the BSA pinewood derby. My axles now slide in and out with ease. Not to sound dumb, but is this the desired effect? I was wondering if there should be some resistance at least or what would be the desired method of "fixing" my axles in place.

a little water in the holes should swell them up a bit, or a toothpick with a little white elmers glue will work as well.

I think the diameter of your drill bit is too large or somehow you have some really skinny axles... Drill diameters vary even for a #44 drill so you may need to try a diffrent one...

Use #43 drill bit...
White Elmers glue does work. only takes a small amount to do the trick........

My EDGEucated guess is that your drill press has a wobble, shaky hands or your bit is bent?

Just a note: A #43 drill bit makes an even bigger hole than a #44.
