I have an older, but lightly used Delta 8" bench top drill press. I recently got the #44 stubby bit (yellow collar) to drill axle holes using The Block.
I chucked the bit as carefully as I could, but the slightly blurry edge at speed tells me that it isn't spinning as concentrically as I would like. The drilled hole also is slightly larger than it should be, as measured by tightness of fit.
Is there a way to use collets, like with the Dremel, to hold the bit more concentrically in the chuck?
Thanks,
John

Sometimes on a loose drill press you can get good results by raising the workpiece right up under the drill bit. This keeps the stroke as short as possible. Try a slower speed too.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try a slower speed. I've never opened the top cover, but I would guess it has different sized pulleys and a belt.
I've looked on the internet for a replacement chuck, but there are a bewildering number of choices out there.
Not to hijack my own thread, but I see why some people here use Proxxon drills. But to me, it seems that if a Proxxon drill costs over $200 without an X-Y table, then one might be better off with the $350 Proxxon MF70 micro mill. I think I'll start saving up for one. My sons are 8 and 5, so we'll be doing pinewood derby stuff for years to come.
Thanks,
John
