OK so a local pack is doing an adult dinner/pinewood derby next saturday the 16th. I am going to jump in and do a car, but I want to do a needle car. I have the axles and wheels already, but I have never used them on a car before. I dont have the rules yet, as I just got the form today and you dont get the rules til you buy the tickets (tomorrow or so) but I know the rules are very relaxed, so I am sure needles are good to go. Anyone have any suggestions? I have the block, so that's going to do my axle holes, any other tips? Fenders? or are they not worth it with the razor wheels?

OK how bout these apples. Basically, the rules are anything goes. Anything but flame, basically. Weight, height, length etc. What do you guys think is the optimal? I'm thinking 8oz, extended WB, 7 inch as usual, razor wheels and needles. I have a set of the old holeshots, but I thought I might be better off with needles, what do you guys think?

Keep your weight as far back as you can while keeping a good COM and build it as long as possible. If you can build it long and keep the rear wheels on the track behind the starting pin, do it. Keep your front axles 1 1/4" or so back from the nose and make the nose long and light like the door slammers. The more time you can keep the weight on the hill the more momentum you'll build and the faster you'll be on the flat. A shorter wheelbase will keep the weight on the hill longer also. Not to short or you'll lose high speed stability, 1 1/4" is the same nose as a Pure Stock. You more experienced guys please let me know if my theology is right on this. Sounds perfect 9DB. Also 9" is max for length (After that things slow down) 8 ounces is about right. But needle axles might bend too much???

OK, here's another point. What about puitting the wheels as far back as possible? In other words, dril the holes right near the very back of the block, so they stick out past the back of the car? Or am I overthinking this one too much?
