:-/im trying to use krytox oil. tried putting one drop on axle then spin wheel then remove axle and blow off with air. then tried one drop and spin axle then install wheel. also tried two drops then install axle and spin then install wheel. i have good luck with hobelube. i have a 35' best track which measures 34' from peg to timer hole. with using hobelube my times are 2.530 to 2.540 but with krytox my times are 2.568 to 2.577. not sure what to do.

Krytox needs a graphite free surface to work well. Is there any possibility of graphite contamination in the wheels you are using with Krytox? Also, if you converting graphite wheels to Krytox, you must be certain all traces of graphite are cleaned from the wheels (axles) before changing over. I also recommend polishing the wheel bores with some type of plastic polish to remove all graphite that was burnished into bores during graphite use.

wellerracing,
I'm certainly not an expert (still on a steep learning curve) on krytox as I have too recently converted to oil from graphite. I was just tired of breathing hobe lube when I worked in my shop. My daughter thought I was playing with her glitter when I came in the house with graphite all over my clothes.
At first I tried to clean graphite wheels and convert to oil with very poor results. I guess I was trying to keep the variables to a minimum. As Insupsense mentioned, you have to keep the graphite wheels and oil prepared wheels separate. Also, the bore treatment for oil wheels is more critical with regard to polishing.
Others may/will provide additional input. Good luck with conversion.

Here are a few things to do 1 - If the wheels have had graphite in them, take them off and get a fresh set. I have tried using graphite wheels and repolishing. I never had good luck. I always use fresh wheels. 2 - Polish the wheels with a good plastic polish, I use Novus #2 and a 0.096" diameter q-tip shaft mounted in a cordless drill. Cut one end of the q-tip off, mount the other end in the drill. Apply your polish and while the shaft is spinning slowly, push the wheel on and then remove. You will mostly hear a slight squeak but that is ok. Do this only once. Wipe off any excess polish and then take a pipe cleaner with denatured alcohol on it and clean out the bore good. Next, take a can of moisture free air and blow out the wheel to dry out the alcohol. The wheel will be ready. 3 - Make sure you use an axle with a single wide groove, polish it real good and as a last step clean it also with denatured alcohol. If the axles have had graphite on them, just clean the good with alcohol and you should be good to go. 4 - Mount the wheel and axle on your car. Then add your krytox while holding the car on it's side. You can be fairly generous. Coat it in there real good. All that add 1 drop spin, remove wheel, wipe off excess reinstall wheel is a bunch of crap. When the wheels are lubed good, spin with your fingers several times to spread it around and coat the inner bore good. 5 - Take your canned air and then blow all the excees out. I like to let the air free spin the wheels really fast while I blow them out. Blow it out from the axle head towards the car body. Wipe off any excess that may be on the outer tread and edges of wheels. 6 - You should be ready to go. 7 - Make sure your track has been completely wipe down and cleaned from any graphite that may be on the track. Maybe that will help you out some. There are a couple of other things you can do to the wheels but some things have to be under lock and key.

I think denatured alcohol should remove the oil. Read Carolinas post and follow it precisely, if you do everything just like he says, you should be in good shape. If you need help with bore or axle polishing techniques let me know. -Chris
