You can install them on just about any track... take a look
We just installed an ESS on our old wood track and it works great.
This track was built in the 60's or early 70's.
We use this track for running Scout derby's and wanted to make this track Edge Equipped.
So one night we turned over the starting section and just looked at it for a minute or two and studied the lever release to see how we could make the ESS work with this type of set up.
I was going to make a wood bracket but Glenn brought in an old ESS proto type bracket and it was a perfect fit.
We used all the same parts to install it on this wood track.
All we had to do was use the prototype bracket to attach it to the track to bolt the ESS unit to that using the same bolts supplied in the kit plus two more nuts and bolts and drill two holes in the side of the track to hold the bracket.
Drill the same size hole into the lever release to install the ESS linkage.
I will post a small video showing the kids at the derby pushing the button to start the races.
They really had fun doing this. Makes the boys feel important to have something to do with the race other than just watching the cars go down the track.

Here are some pictures how we made it happen.
We used an old bracket to attach the ESS unit to the track.
With a little Engineering this can be done several different ways...
Drill hole in lever release to attach the linkage for ESS unit.
Also sand down the ESS linkage to make clearance for the lever release movement.
Attach ESS linkage the same way you would for the BestTrack.
This unit can be used for just about any track setup that requires a pull type lever release...
Just study the set up and you should be able to make it work.
You will still be able to use the manual gate release if needed.
