It looks like they would travel well. Nice and easy too!

It also makes nice boxes to keep everything together when working on each car. Just remove the foam. Disassemble your car and place it in the containers. I had all three cars apart in their containers while working on them. Also the foam for my PS car fit all my PS cars. All the mods fit the same foam too. Except for the guitar car which I had to make different.

When I sent 8 cars to the Nationals I'm sure they were all cussing me. It probably took them 30 minutes to figure out my Chinese car puzzle. I fit 4 boxes in the medium priority flat rate box today. It cost me just over $10 for shipping. It's usually $12.70

This way should work great for you in packing the cars up for shipment, making the trip, unpacking them for the race and then repacking them up to send back....
Also would keep your kids car safe for the local pack, that way the kid could even carry his or her car to the race.
Very nicely done ACME...
This should be another fine example for others to follow...

David - I felt really bad when I sent those cars to the Nats. I feel even worse you got to unpack it! John did a great job packing them up.
