We took 4th out of 250 in a Regional Awana race using the Awana Ones. MB4Hire drilled the block for canted axles. Lost to first by .015 secs. The top 8 all had razor style wheels (probably 1/16" to 1/8" wide) except us (rules say any mods as long as letters on outside remain).
The track was smooth and wood and didn't have a very steep slope.
Wanted to experiment in the off season, and have limited resources, what do you think would be the best (My first plan is to try to get more speed out of the Awana Ones, I'm sure I can learn more). The Awana wheels are a softer plastic and difficult to work with. They have spokes inset and would be tough to get thinner than 1/16" tread.
What do you think would be the best to try? Which order?
1) Reduce the tread width of the Awana Ones (to 1/8" or 1/16")
2) H-style tread and lighten the wheel from inside
3) V-style tread and lighten the wheel from inside
4) Reduce the width of tread width, cut the tread H-style, lighten from inside
Thanks for any opinions or suggestions of other options.
Jim
