Well after being away for a while (daughters graduating from UNLV & one getting married) among other things within the past 4 months. A lot of new stuff going on in the pine car world lately. Been out of the groove lately and I go & pick this thread to say hi again....yikes Rankings are cool & gives everyone something to talk about during the year and if any governing body wants a ranking system, all blessings and power to them, but the debate whether or not if rankings determine the National Champ in any sport is older than all of our ages put together and will continue on for ever..... NCAA basketball has shown the #1 ranked team all season usually does not go home with the trophy (the '91 UNLV Rebels come to my mind man have they stunk ever since, did beat Louisville this year though ;D), but it was still a blast seeing them ranked #1 all year. How many of us love the BCS? Everyone will never agree on everything.

I think that DaPine put it best when he said that the debate over a national champion is a never ending conversation.
It all professional sports there is a "crowned" king of the hill. Baseball even has a "World Series" Champion, when was the last time that anyone saw a team from a country other than the USA or Canada represented? The thing about the pros is they get a chance if they are in the league. They prove it on the field. And every sport has some form of "judge", be it a referee, umpire, official or an arbitrary thing like time.
Colleges and amateur sports are even tougher to declare a champion. Simply put there is always a team out there to humble you. Can we really say that Florida was the undisputed champ? Not on the field they didn't even play the only team that didn't lose. In this instance the championship was decided by the people NOT the teams!
The biggest problem with all of these games and competitions is that they are all one time gatherings. The NBA, NHL, and MLB probably have the purest forms of testing out of the bunch a defined series of games played with similar parameters on two fields, to lessen the influence of a "Home Team" advantage (but then again the better squad does get an advantage). That are permanently in place and meticulously maintained.
The idea of a year long "race" to the championship is no different than NASCAR. And more even, because it is often said "Any given Sunday" things happen.
The last that I talked to Glen, which admittedly was a while ago, he had express an interest in running and not competing in pinewwood derby anymore, because as he put it "They have nothing left to prove". I could be wrong, and please correct me if I am, but I see this as a situation that is a nonissue. This does not mean he will not put cars on the track, as he does every month. But wouldn't you if you had the same opportunities?
All of that said, I support a series of races to determine a winner. But on the other hand, maybe there could be a one pass winner ala KOH that is figured purely on time. Then you could have the "Series Champ" and the "Drag Champ".

I've been quite on this just reading all the comments but this is my worth I think a national ranking between the two leagues is great it might inspire some of the top racers in the other leagues to come and race to show us how good they are

I am all for a ranking system. I think it is a great idea and have never that the idea was bad. I just do not think that it is a great idea to have it so dependant on the two racing venues that will be holding it.
If no one likes the idea of holding a national race crowning a champion there, why not allow times from other races if they setup their tracks to the same specs? This way no one can say that it is not fair to them and people will feel it is a national thing not just a PDDR or Eastcoast event. Also there is the aspect of builders having to build cars to your rules to run for a national ranking, builders might have to change their cars to meet your rules. Since this is a national ranking might it not be a good thing to get all leagues together on this and get a standard set of rules and not just the rules of PDDR and Eastcoast.

If no one likes the idea of holding a national race crowning a champion there, why not allow times from other races if they setup their tracks to the same specs? That might be just a big can of worms. You need to have an official track that is setup and stays setup nearly all the time. Bottom line is this: Anyone who is anyone in this hobby knows who Glenn Jewkes is...if they want to be at the top of the ranks, they will have to go through him.....period.

The National Ranking...
The National ranking is for finding a fastest pass and fastest ave. ranked in order keeping the fastest pass and fastest ave until it gets beat.
This will let you see where you are ranked in the Nation...
This is not for a championship, you can send in your car any time at a pddr race or eastcoast race during the year and have your car ranked...

Look I think the whole point of this is two fold .... 1. to let people all over the country, who win their pack, district, and council races.... these people think they are invincible... just like I did (I came in last in the first race I entered at PDDR). This allows them to mail in a car and see how they stack up against the best of the best. 2. this also lets the builders of other leagues, who may not be interested in our points race,...mail in a car, they may be the best in their league.... this ranking shows them how they stack up against the best of the best. ( I think it is a proven fact that the best of the best race in this league) that's it. Personally I care more about the chase and trying to fight off cars like "Mr Scary"(got something for ya carolina )than some national ranking. But I think the Jewkes should be commended in trying to put together a means to bring other leagues together. Good job Jewkes!

OK, I will solve this. Since no race has been named this... August 22nd, 2009 the East Coast Derby race will officially be the National Championship race. The winner will carry the title until the 2010 race. The EastCoast classes will expand to race the current league classes. I am also inviting a rep from PDDR and PWDRacing to sit on the inspection table to ensure fairness. More details to come. Don't forget WIRL and SAPCAR Leagues John, invite them to.
and any other league that was made this year those home town leagues to.

My main concern about this whole thing is - I hope there's like 1000 places of rank. This way I might possibly show up on the list?

But PLEASE stop pissing in each others sand box. Where's the Love?!!! LET'S RACE!!!! We are Racing classey.... there is no pissing, just opinions... but when we come up with something new some people just can't stand it. but this is OK that is why we have an open forum where you can express your opinion. but guess what there are other people out there that will not like the opinion that you posted, so just be aware that you might not like what other people have to say about your opinion that you post.... this is all OK, we do not delete post or change them... I am having fun with this discussion... 2fast4u PS. the national ranking will be and it will be though pddr and east coast. rather anyone likes it or not... oh yes it could go all the way to 1000 ranks just depends on how many builders send a car in or comes live...
