howdy from texas, gods true zion.
i did pinewood derby as a kid but the best i ever did was 3rd place. i recently went to a ward pinewood derby race and got interested in doing this as an adult. my car took 2nd and the 1st place car, i did the axles so i felt like i won just the same.
saw a few youtube videos and wow i am amazed at the quality of work yall put out.
question - may i send in my car and have you run it down the track to see what kind of time i am running without being in a race? and is there a charge for this?
now i have a lot of reading to do, to catch me up to speed. great site, i plan on entering a car in the june race, pure stock class.

Welcome! I would just send it in to a race. That's only $10 This way you can see it run compared to the other cars. I wouldn't do too much to your car before sending it in. This way you can chart your changes and reduction in times. Plus it's a lot of fun! Can you post a picture of it?

burpinchunks,
Acme gave out some good advice. I'm new to the PDDR as well, tomorrow is my first race (Stock Class). I'm using that race as a test to see how the changes I made will improve a car my son and I built for his pack race this year. Also the results will determine the direction I follow for my Pure Stock for next month. I would recommend tuning in to the race tomorrow. Nothing is better than watching the cars go down the track. You can also meet some of the PDDR regulars during the live chat. From one newbie to another welcome to the forum.

when i started looking into the pinewood derby "sport" (i didnt realize it was its own little cult) i found this youtube video of a cool yellow car called sweet. i was completely amazed by the skill that was involved in creating this beast. so i set out to try to duplicate it. it turns out my skills arent there yet and i had to change up the design some to fit my skill level, but here is my sad attempt at recreating sweet.

i wont be finishing this one, i made too many mistakes and will be changing the design some to make it more appealing. but the kids really like it, so i keep it around until i can have a replacement.

You've got nothing to be ashamed about! Those cars look great! I thought I had done a pretty good job on my yellow Daytona Charger. I brought it up from the car cave to show my wife. She said it looked like a kid painted it. I sent it in anyway. I think it looks good at 42 feet. That's all that matters.
