I seem to be having a problem getting my hands around racing on really short tracks(sub 30ft). When my sons race on medium to long tracks they clean house. They did not do badly, but just about 3 or 4 feet from the finish they would start to gain ground if they were behind. Do you have any suggestions for us? I used Jewkes pre-drilled blocks and 1 gram wheels. The cars went nice and straight with the COG at 3/4" from center of the rear wheels.

Is the track all down hill or does it go flat?

It is a wooden 2 lane track that has the normal sweeping drop and flat area.

Tell us more about your car. Canted axles? Total weight? Type of axles? Wheel prep? Lube? Etc. Can you post a picture?

I will post pictures later today or tomorrow, but I will describe them as best I can. They are extended wheelbase cars weighing right at 5ozs. They are pretty flat cars with two big holes drilled in the front and center of the cars. Three wheels are touching and they are not canted. Unweighted with the wheels on them they weigh 1.06oz and the COB is in the center. Once weighted the COG is 3/4" ahead of the center of the rear wheels. The axles I have been using are from Maximum Velocity, they are the "Super Speed Axles". I polished them up as usual. The wheels are two different sets (not mixed and matched). One set is the 1 gram wheels from MV and the other set is the 1 gram wheels from Jewkes. Last and not least the lube I used was MVs own Max-V-Lube Dry Graphite. Also, not to sound like a total idiot, how do you post a picture?

1st suggestion would be to go with the jewkes wheels all around !! i have to come clean here with my associates and say i like the lube you are using, although i use hobby lube just as much ! i think the problem here is the track ! not your cars. sounds like to me you have a pretty good set up not to sound like a PDDR homer ! but if i were you i would send that car in and see how it does ! you will know how you stack up, video !, and slo mo ! my

Well, its funny you should say to send the cars in. Thats what I was thinking also. I just need to figure out what class they will run in. I'm figuring stock. So I will see when the next stock race is and send them in. I will post a picture, see what you think. Thanks for the input.

Do you have the car set to steer into the rail? If so, how much?
From my experieinces, it could be they are turning a bit more. You can get away with it on shorter tracks, but yo uwwill slow down more in that last 8' or so once you get to the longer tracks.
I have seen this with our cars. I can take my son on a short track, he gets me on the long ones. Only differnce in setup is steer into the rail for us.
Hope it helps.

Both cars are not set to steer to the rail at all. That could be the case here. Thanks for the info.
