I got the April cars back today and descided to go ahead and change Ying Yang over to graphite from oil. It did the most odd thing I have ever seen since I have been playing around with and running oil. It looked as dry as a bone. I couldn't tell if there was even the slightest hint of any oil at all. When I ran the car down the track it was running 3.08's. I lubed the car with oil before I packed it and it was running 2.96's and 2.97's. At the race it ran a 2.995 average and when I get it back it's was completely dry and running 3.08's. That has never happened before, the times have always been within a few thousandths before, during and after the race. I know krytox evaporates over time but I have never seen it evaporate that fast. Just seemed odd. Anyways, it will be running on graphite in the future.

How many racers use oil instead of graphite, on their cars? I'm curious if all the fast ones are using oil, and the rest of us turtles are using graphite...... ;D
Inquiring minds want to know.....

Guess then I'll have to go onto plan B. Trying to get some of that special polymer that Clark W. Grisswald used on his sled. ;D

I'm just hoping that my car doesn't finish last. If they finished first, then you KNOW I was able to get some. ;D I've given up on Pure Stock. The cars are just to darn fast.... Moving over to Stock, as my chances are better to not finish last in that class.... Nightmare

That wasn't the stuff I sent you was it? No Sarge, it wasn't the stuff you sent me. It was my same original bottle that I have used all along. All together, I have sent in 7 oil cars. That's including Pure Stock and Door Slammr's. The previous 6 always ran just about the same times here as they did at PDDR. This time there is a 0.11 second difference between pre-ship times and post ship times. That is a huge difference. When I pulled the wheels last night, the hubs/bores were dull/dry looking. It should have been shiny. Normally the wheels themselves will have a shiny appearance from the oil. These were not. I'm still scratching my head. I have had oil cars sit around for a couple of months and only loose 0.01 to 0.02 seconds at the most, not 0.11 seconds. Any thoughts? I guess I need a new set of wheels for it now to run some graphite with. All my other sets are spoken for.

Maybe the oil was siphoned off by the USPS? They are going through some tough $$ times, and they are looking to cut corners maintenance wise on their mail trucks.... Did you happen to notice if your local mail carrier is driving a faster than usual mail truck now..... I never heard or would have thought oil could evaporate? Best of luck figuring that one out.. Carolina, don't give up on oil just yet (unless you are willing to give a full disclosure of what you use and the technique in which you apply it...LOL) You have had a lot of success with it in the past and I think you have been 1 bad pass away from winning a couple of times. I received "Checked Out" back Monday, and I must say that the Jewkes took extra care in packaging my cars. NO DAMAGE! I thought of sending in my car for this weekend to see how it compares in time on East Coast's Track. Well I put it on my track and 2.525.... Stuff happens at the post office... maybe it is not even the post office.. that car was running 2.47's on my 35'track and it will again. All I can say is.... by the way for anyone wondering... I use Hob-E-Lube

The cars were fine Cecil, I think I just pushed the limit with the oil. In order to get that blistering speed, I had to get a really thin layer of oil. I believe that extremely thin layer allowed for it to evaporate away faster than normal. Normally, I would apply fairly generously and just blow it out one good time. This time as I was settting it up, I ventured slightly away from my normal routine and it cost me. I still believe I'll run with the graphite for awhile.

Well I have come to the conclusion that some cars are just destined to run on oil. I tried two different sets of axles cut with 2 different groove designs, 3 different sets of wheels and I could not get Ying Yang to run worth a hoot with graphite. A 2.981 was the fastest it would go. I cut a new set of Awana axles to run with oil and fix a set of wheels to run with oil and now it's back to low 2.97's. Oh well, at least I can say I tried.
I'm still running graphite on all new cars from here on out. It's just more predictable.
