Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I have a question about raised wheel cars. I've noticed in some of the videos that some cars seem to have a counter weight on the front non-dominant wheel. The wheel is placed towards the rear of the car. Could someone give me the rational behind this design process?

Some rules (depends of class) require 4 wheels, but don't require where thay are placed. If you only need 3 wheels touching the track, the 4th wheel can be placed further back where the weight of it is more benificial. The "counter weight" your are talking about is a guide pin to keep the car from coming off the rail.

Thanks for the info....where do you find the guide pin used on most cars.

Thanks for the info....where do you find the guide pin used on most cars. Many builders put the 4th wheel in the body of the car. This helps cut down air resistance. The guide pin is usually constructed by the builder using plexiglass or plastic.

CBD,
Thanks for the design tip...after further studying the pics on the site I have a bunch of ideas. My son and I are in the planning stages for next years Pack race. Our goal is to make it to a district race. If you don't mind me asking...are all of your wheels canted on your sunburst car?

CBD, Thanks for the design tip...after further studying the pics on the site I have a bunch of ideas. My son and I are in the planning stages for next years Pack race. Our goal is to make it to a district race. If you don't mind me asking...are all of your wheels canted on your sunburst car? Yes, Sunburst has rear canted wheels using the pin that comes with "the block" by Jewkes. The front was drilled straight and the axle was bent sightly to steer car into the rail. If you don't have "The Block", I would recommend just drilling the wheels straight and don't try and cant the wheels. I personally have never been successful in bending the rear axles to cant the wheels. Too many alignment problems.
