I think this is a good story, even without any pics.
A few years ago, my son was District Grand Champion. Last year, he slipped to fourth. His new car was not slower than the one from the previous year, the other boys were getting faster. Then we found PDDR and went back to school. My son spent a year building cars to his Cub Scout rules and sending them into PDDR to get times on them to test what worked and what did not. I read everything posted and took a trip out to Utah to learn at the hands of the Masters. LA Sound and many other builders also provided great information. He had a bunch of fun and he was able to take .06 seconds off of his car. We used the block but all the parts came right out of his BSA kit (minus the tungsten and graphite). I provided him information and encouragement and he did all the work.
This year he was first in his Den and Pack. In Districts he won his Rank and was overall District Grand Champion. He didn't loose a race to any other boy. I was even more impressed when we had a chance to take pictures of the top four cars at Districts and I observed that the 2nd and 4th place boys had one gram wheels. This is against the rules and as many of you know, takes about .05 seconds off of your times.
My daughter also raced in the Girl Scouts Powder Puff Derby. She finished first in her Troop and was the overall Girl Scout Champion. After the Pack and GS Championships we have a race to determine the overall School Champion. My daughter beet my son. I was the proudest parent there because they both were such great sports. My son told his sister that just because she beat him this year, does not mean she will win next year:)
After the District Grand Championship, I told my son he was lucky there weren't any eight year old girls racing:)
THANKS TO PDDR, LA SOUND, and everyone else who helped us through the year.
Now lets see how much we can shave off their times for next year.
