I sent my son's car to PDDR to see how it would do before our Scout derby. It raced under the name SRA Speedsters. First off, I want to thank Glenn for making sure the car got back in time for check-in as the cars are impounded from Monday until Sunday. The video showed a huge wiggle problem, so we swapped wheels and turned it a little harder to the rail. On Derby Sunday, no other cars even came close and he is the overall pack champ. Never lost a heat. He is a Webelos this year, I wish I'd found PDDR sooner! He did nearly all the work himself, under my instruction. Of course the first step was clamping that car into The Block and drilling the holes. Then I (nervously) turned him loose on the band saw. He even routed the body and poured the lead. He's not a big fan of sanding, so I did most of that. He painted it black and I gave it a flame job.
Here is the top 6 in the pack. Seth is in the front row on the right.
Here he is with the car showing off the trophy and the medal for 1st in Webelos
Look at that smile - only a week after his braces came off!
I entered my car in the friends and family division and easily beat the 2 little girls who came in 2nd and 3rd
But now on to the bad news......I entered a car for my wife in the friends and family race to boost the number of entries. We race on a Best Track, and its a few years old. It has the old curve and I think it must have an early stopping section as a few cars did not stop easily and derailed into other cars. Here are the results of one race:
The right front broke and the wheel came off. Oh well, could have been worse. Just to be clear, I think Best Tracks are...well...the best tracks. (I hope to get one soon). The races were fast and the lanes were even. The stopping section they offer now looks to be improved from what our pack has.
And more bad news. I was able to test the Camaro I am sending in for the March Door Slammr race and I compared them to my pure stock times. I have found that I will be nowhere near as fast as Bubba and Carolina. My hat is off to you guys for sure. Should still be fun, though.
