Well if you think I am looking for a hand out you have me wrong. I do not want a hand out at all. All I was saying is that I am not going to spend the money on a new tool that I can not prove does any better then what I am already doing. I again am not saying anything bad about the tool and I am sure it works well for many people. I am using something very similiar to it. If someone wants to prove to me that a car drilled with the block is better then how I am currently doing it then I will buy one, that is what I am saying. evolution nice new name... Sorry to get on a high horse but it has been a long road to get where we are at today... when someone asks for help the builders jumped in to tell you use the block it has help them and they want to share... just as we want to help everyone out that we can... if you have a great method for alignment then that is great to... hope you have fun building cars with your sons and if you need any help let me know... heck, I tore my track apart for ya...lol Glenn

May be they mean "A-Line"d potatoes. They start off half baked and stew until they give up and mash themselves. But they do come in neat little rows! ?

I forget, was it the average air speed of a swallow?

Glen,
Thanks for taking your track apart again. I know it was a lot of work and I am greatful. I do like the new name as my cars are in a state of Evolution and I beleive they will always be. If a day comes that they are not changing that will be the day I am not racing.

Hey- I seriously think you should concentrate on the slope and set-up of your track. Glenn is correct in saying you need to send in a car to get a baseline, but if you can set your track up to clone PDDR it helps.
My son had a pack car that was runnin some crazy fast times, and when we sent it in, it did well, but far from great. After some research, our slope was too steep giving us the false sense of speed!
If I remember correctly, PDDR slope is 26.7 degrees. I bought a digital level and built aluminum levelers for my best-track and set my track up to exactly the same as PDDR. Well, guess what, our times slowed down and was almost identical to what we were running at PDDR.
With your slope set to 26.7, on a 35ft best track, you can figure that 2.500 would put you at about 3.000 on a 42ft track.

I think the slope is 27.1

I think it was LA Sound that msgd me a while back and said it was 26.7, but I'm simply going off of memory.
Maybe if Glenn has a digital level, he could chime in and let us know exactly what it is?

Hey Evolution-
I've had the block for about 6 months now and when it first showed up i thought to myself, "I just paid $70 for a flippn square chunk of metal". I even considered returning it as all it appeared to do is hold the block of wood off the table. I thought to myself, as long as my drill press is square, I dont need this block of metal to drill axle holes.
Well, once I watched Glenns video on how to actually use the block, I realized how retarded I was for not knowing all the different tools the block actually is. I can check my press every single time for square, check my block of wood for square, drill straight holes, and MOST IMPORTANT- I can now drill canted axle holes perfect every single time.
The top builder of PWD cars in the United States designed, built and uses THE BLOCK on his cars, along with the vast majority of the builders here, and thats what convinced me to buy it.
I bet if you asked Glenn, he has never had a block returned, for any reason at all.
The only thing I would like to be included with the block was a second pin that is the full length of the block, that way I dont have to worry about the block possibly tipping when drilling. Maybe I could schmooze Glenn into making one for me for the right price!

I cut my pin in 1/2 & use 11/2 at each end

Thats a good idea, but I like the length of the pin now cuz it works perfect for checking the squareness of my drill press.

I am new to all this....I have watched the video on the BLOCK...I plan on purchasing one very soon. Might as well, I have all other tools that are made for this sport...a few questions though...The BLOCK - how does it do the "canted" thing....also, if the wheels travel outward then they would be rubbing against the axle head...why would that be faster than running normal and not hitting the axle head? Why can you not just placed the block down and drill the hole?....also, if running in BSA PWD, you have to use the slots, how can the BLOCK help you with that.... ...I am sure some might think these are poor questions, but as I stated, I am new to all this....I want to be a part of it...my sons want to help and enter thier own cars as well....how does that work?...any thoughts or feedback would be helpful....Thanks Steve

THE BLOCK has 2 slots on the sides for the pin that comes with it one for pos. cant the other for neg. cant 3. with axles canted so wheels go toward the axle heads the inside edge of the wheel is the only part of the wheel touching the track; less wheel touching the track & wheel against the axle head is less wheel friction which means more speed 4. use THE BLOCK & drill press to drill in axle slots helps with better alignment
