Great pictures. How long is that track and what times and speeds are considered competitive? We were riding our Harley's through the NC mountains one time and went to Chimney Rock. On that particular day they were having soap box derby races coming down the mountain. It was awesome!!! Not only were they flying downhill, they also had all those wicked hairpin turns to maneuver. There was an awful lot of crashes. It made for an interesting day.

They typically don't keep track of times.
It's the time differance between the cars.
they run heats, like a (A phaze and a B phase race)
since they run different lanes and do wheel swaps with the other racer, they are ravign against.
they win or loose by the over all time differance from the car who finished first. but also if the other car does well in that lane also.
they can overcome the time differance of the other driver.
depends on what class and what hill, and tracks set up.
speed wise.
stock class, super stock, masters class, ultimate speed.
16 to 33 miles per hour is the norm range. does not seem like fast numbers but, in the car for the kids it does.
I have seen ties and typically you see wins with in .003 of one another.
it's closer racing than pinewood derby at times.
though I have yet to see a race with turns, these cars typically have a very marginal turn radius, can angle but not turns. they run pretty strait with some angling to use the coarse for gaining some speed.
thats where a angle compensator comes in handy for knowing your track.
