Has anyone tried this. I got the car ready primed than put down a black coat in a small area where I wanted the flame. let the paint dry for 4 days I then cut out a flame with an xacto knife from a self adhesive label (computer label paper) stuck it on my hand a few times to take off some of the adhesive. then put it on the painted area. Then painted the rest of the car green. I am waiting for this coat to dry before peeling off the flame label. Hope it works... any input from the great painters

i have done this before , didn't wait 4 days but the mail label products are paper based and the paint tends to migrate underneath in my experience.
i like to cut my stuff on a bumper sticker

Jettwash & FBR, What you're looking for is called:
FRISKET paper.
Available at most Art/Craft stores. It is what airbrushers have used for years as a mask/stencil.
Low tack, cuts well with a sharp X-acto knife. Won't bleed or leave gummy adhesive when removed. RATTLE CANS RULE

Just to follow-up, here is a piece of frisket that I've drawn a 'splash design' on. Cut it with a sharp razor blade or X-Acto.
You can also print images from the web on frisket paper. Works best on a laser printer, inkjet printers smear. I resize to a 3x5 index card size. Then cut the frisket to size.

F.A.S.T.; Thanks for the tip, my wife is going to the craft store tomorrow. Sounds like this is exactly what we were looking for. This twice you have come to my aid. Thanks again Rick .. I will let you know how it turns out. Jettwash "RATTLE CAN PAINTERS UNITE"

OK F.A.S.T., I was beginning to think you were "yankin' my chain" with this frisket stuff. The "helpful old lady" behind the counter at every craft store I have visited in the last few weeks has given me the same "whatya been smokin', sonny" look when I asked her about "frisket". I was about to pull my hair out when I googled it and found this: www.misterart.com/store/view/001/group_id/9196/Grafix-All-Purpose-Frisket.htmSince it looks like I'm gonna have to mail order it, does that stuff look good to you? Or do you have a preference for another brand / type? Bubba [glow=red,2,300][/glow]

Bubba, Looks like that will work.......you'll have a lifetime suppy...... 4 yds !!!!
I prefer the matte finish, shows pencil lines better. Still transparent enough to see where you are placing it.
If you are careful when cutting out the design, you will have 2 stencils. A "male" & "female". ALWAYS use a fresh #11 X-Acto blade, or if you have steady hands, a NEW single edge razor blade.
Good Luck and above all HAVE FUN !!! ;D

Bubba; We found that craft stores had no Idea what we were talking about either. My wife found it at a local hobby store that focuses on custom built R.C. cars and planes. Jett
