I was wondering if some of you would share what brands of clear coats you are using. I have been using the HOK catalyst clears and I have been hit or miss at best with them. I know Dupont makes some good clears but they are pricey. I am not so much worried about the expense so if some of the builders that are using Dupont clears could let me know which model numbers they use and where they order from I would really appreciate it.
Also, how do you clean your guns after spraying these Dupont clears? With the HOK clears I have just been using reducer and that seems to work very well. Looking forward to Saturday's races.

I have been using Dupont ChromaClear 7900s and have been very pleased with the results.
Look in your local Yellow Pages under: "Automobile Body Shop Equipment & Supplies" FinishMasters is a National chain, should be one close to you. DuPont is only sold by franchised Dealers. That's a good thing, because they can advise you on what the best temp range activator to use for your area.
I shoot with a 1.0mm tip/needle set. To clean out the gun I use the cheapest reclaimed lacquer thinner I can find. Be sure to fully tear down gun & scrub the needle/tip & aircap. Any residue will harden & ruin the fluid passages.
Last note, WEAR A RESPIRATOR. HAVE ADEQUATE VENTILATION !!!!! Isocyanates are very nasty, and can cause severe lung problems.

Thanks for the response F.A.S.T.! I really appreciate all your help. I will see if I can find the 7900s and give them a shot. I always use a respirator. Those clears are some nasty stuff.
You racing Saturday? I am sending in a Pure Stockr for the first time in a few months. Funny how other things get in the way of my derby time!

Hey Scruffy21, The best rattle can clear I have used so far is Plasti-Kote Classic Lacquer available @ Car Quest.
For rattle-can clear my favorite is Dupli-Color T125. Very high solids, dries to a decent gloss without buffing.
Remember, that ANY Lacquer only dries, never cures like enamel or cat-hardened paint.
Da Pine, Thanks for the tip... I'm gonna try a can of the Plasti-Kote.

Thanks for the info guys. I will take a look at all suggestions.
I have a new Pure Stockr "Neophyte" going on Saturday. I have no idea how it will look compared to others or how it will run. Just hope it is respectable!
