What is the best weight placement for a metal track that is half down-hill and half straight-away? I've heard that if the weight is a little further towards the front of the car, it aids in speed for a certain type of track. Any suggestions? I'm brain dead at the moment. Thanks.

Remember that the longer the weight is on the hill the longer you will pick up speed...

I must have missed something in that answer. LOL. I know the further back the weight is, the faster the car goes down hill, but I've seen cars that seem to accelerate on the straight-away. I'm trying to remember if they said they had put the weight a little further forward to make it do that. The track that we're using this year seems not to have as much flat area as before.

HEY Crabby HOW ARE YOU DOING... THE CARS DO NOT SPEED UP ON THE STRAIGHT... THE FASTEST CARS JUST MAINTAIN THERE SPEED BETTER... BUT IF THE WEIGHT IS AS FAR BACK AS YOU CAN GET IT AND KEEP THE CAR STABLE YOU WILL HAVE A FAST CAR... I AM FINDING OUT THAT WEIGHT PLACEMENT IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS THE ALIGNMENT AND KEEPING THE CAR STABLE... THE OTHER NIGHT WE RAN A LOCAL CUB SCOUT RACE... AT THE LAST MINUTE A YOUNG BOY SHOWED UP WITH HIS BROTHER WITH A CAR THAT HAS HAD NOTHING DONE TO IT... I MEAN IT WAS AS OUT OF THE BOX AS YOU CAN GET IT... IT WAS UNDER WEIGHT JUST A LITTLE SO I TOOK MY SHARPE BLACK MARKER AND STUCK IT ON THE SCALE AND IT MADE 141 GRAMS JUST UNDER 5.0 OZ'S... I LOOKED AT THE CAR AND I SAID TO THE OLDER KID WHEN DID YOU BUILD THIS CAR. HE SAID 5 MINUTES AGO AND THE YOUNGER ONE RAN OUT SIDE BECAUSE HE WAS EMBARISED...I LOOKED AT THE CAR AND THEN PUSHED IT. IT PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT. I TOOK THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL OFF AND THEN PUSHED THE WHEEL BACK IN TO GET IT TO ROLL STRAIGHT OR JUST PULL LITTLE TO THE LEFT BECAUSE HE HAD THE LEFT WHEEL OFF THE RIDING SURFACE AND IT DID NOT TOUCH THE TRACK... THEN I PUSHED THE CAR AGAIN AND EVERYTHING LOOKED PRETTY GOOD... THE YOUNGEST BOY THAT WAS RACING THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO COME IN TO WATCH THE RACE... THEN I ADDED SOME LUB HOB E LUBE...LOL TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT... 1ST RACE THE CAR WENT DOWN THE HILL AND TOOK SECOND PLACE.. ALL THE CROWD WENT CRAZY... 2ND RACE IT TOOK SECOND AGAIN... THE CROWED STARTED TO CHEER HIM ON... 3RD RACE IT TOOK 1ST PLACE THEN IT WAS TIME TO SEE WHO WOULD CLINCH THE 4TH PLACE SPOT GUESS WHO TOOK 1ST PLACE YEP HE DID IT... THE CROWED WENT CRAZY... THEN WE HAD THE FINAL RACE HE END UP TAKING FORTH PLACE YOU SHOULD OF SEEN THE LOOK ON THE BOYS FACE AND ALL THE KIDS AND PARENTS WHERE TELLING HIM WHAT A GREAT JOB HE DID... SO TOO ME IT COMES RIGHT DOWN TO ALIGNMENT... GLENN

What a great story! I'm glad the little boy did so well! That makes the whole thing worth it. Thanks for the info. on the weight. I'll concentrate more on the alignment and not so much on placement. Oh... if my son goes to District again this year, we'll be sending our car into you again for your "magic touch".
