Does anyone use an airbrush to clear coat their cars? I do not have a sprayer and have tried using an airbrush to clear coat. It works well the first time but I am having trouble getting the airbrush clean enough to not disrupt the flow of the clear. I run reducer through it and that flow is just fine. I have increased the air pressure using the clear but that only helps somewhat. Anyone have ideas on how I can get the brush clean enough between uses so that it clears great each time? Again I have run reducer through it over and over but it just doesn't seem to clean everything sufficiently enough.
Thanks.

I have used my airbrush several times to clear coat cars. I have found that you need to thin the clear coat a little more with reducer to make it flow good. The problem about using the airbrush is like you mentioned, making sure you get it cleaned out of it. I have found that after using clear thru it that you need to take it completely apart and make sure you clean every part very well. I would recommend you getting an airbrush cleaning kit and make sure your airbrush is as clean as possible. I think your problem is a clogged airbrush. Anyway hope this helps.

What Double D said !!!
Not knowing what brand/type of clear you are using, I'll try to help.
You want to over thin the clear. It should be the viscosity of milk.
Also keep a rag close by that is wet with the solvent you are using for the clear. Every couple of passes, wipe the tip. This will help with flow & control. Because the nozzle/tip on air brushes are very small, a little dried paint on the tip/nozzle effects spray pattern and paint flow.
You MUST completely disassemble the air brush after EVERY use. Just running solvent thru won't clean the needle and nozzle well. After a few times you can do it blindfolded.
Good Luck! As with ANY new skill the more you practice the better you become.
