Here's a fast and easy to build paint stand. All you need is a scrap 2 x 4, four drywall screws and MORE POWER TOOLS !! You need a scrap 2x4 about 16 inches long Rip a strip about 3/16 thick Cut that strip in half Measure the length, mark the half way point. For a 16inch strip, that's 8 inches. Drill a 3/8 hole in the center of the strip. Cut the strip in half Strips should look like this. Stack strips, measure up 3/4 inch, drill 3/16 hole Cut 2x4 to about 8~9 inches. Measure up 7/8 inch on side. Measure along side about 1 1/2 inches. Attach strips with drywall screws at marks. Only snug the screws, this lets you move the strips for different wheelbases. The 2x4 has enough weight to be stable, the legs allow you to paint under the car. Toothpicks in the axle holes make it easier to handle the car.

Very nice F.A.S.T.! I have made something similar using a 1X6 and some dowels I had laying around. I use the axle slot block so I just cut a notch in the top of each dowel, knotted a piece of string, slid the string into the notch, pulled it tight and knotted the other end. The slots in the block sit right on the string and you basically have the same thing. I will try to post some pics if I remember how to.
