When running my pure stocker it looks as if there is actual aluminum from the track embedded into the tread. This in turn causes the times to slow a little. I go over them with a very fine grit sandpaper to clean them up and the times come right back. This has also happened to my Super Modified car. Has anyone else had aluminum from the track get into the surface of the tread? I clean the track every time with simple green before I use it and I also keep it covered to reduce the dust. I know it's not a dirty track. If it is aluminum is that normal and is there anything to reduce it?

THE BEST WAY I HAVE FOUND IS GET 1500 GRIT SAND PAPER AND REST YOUR CAR ON IT, WITH ITS OWN WEIGHT... THEN SPIN ONE WHEEL AT A TIME UNTIL THEY LOOK AND FEEL CLEAN... IF YOU ARE TESTING AND MAKING ALLOT OF RUNS, THE BEST WAY TO KEEP YOUR WHEELS CLEAN THAT I HAVE FOUND IS TO SPIN YOUR WHEELS ON YOUR SHIRT AFTER EACH RUN... CAUTION MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE A NICE SHIRT...

When you said aluminum was embedding in the tread, did you have a grey color on the riding surface? And when sanding did all of that color go away?

I keep some 1500 or either 2000 grit handy by the track. When the wheels get a little dirty I hit them with the sand paper and then rub them down good with a 100% cotton rag. I got a whole bundle of them at Advance or either Auto Zone. They work real good.

I think it's aluminum because when I tried to clean the tread with denatured alcohol the grey stayed on the wheel. I have been able to remove graphite this way before.
