One thing I have never understood is why don't the top builders build duplicates of their best cars?
Is it because they don't try or is it that they can't do it?
I am always surprised when a top builder will have one car that is a couple of hundreds of a second faster then another. Why? Is there really a fluke aspect even at the top level? I would think the fluke aspect would go away with sophisticated tools.
What am I missing?

The technology that determines the speed of a car has advanced farther in the past year than it has in quite a while. This has been due in large part to the growth of independent racing leagues. The leagues have not been kept within a "box" as the traditional scout races have been for years. Not to take away from scout racing - but the rules have stayed essentially the same for years.
(If you stay inside of a box - it is harder to get better or go faster)
There have been recent/significant advances in wheel, axle, lube, tool & design technology that has initiated an obvious shift in the way cars are built. The desire to go faster is constantly being pushed & league rules are structured to allow that. Builders within this genre try to ride that wave in hopes of discovering that next great speed breakthrough. It's quite a ride.

For me and my family we always consider the last car that was built, take what we learned from it and push everything we did a little further. So far, our best car is from three years ago but the body designs have changed drastically as our tools and experience have increased. It's not so much about being the fastest everytime, it's about pushing the limits of the rules, our creativity and testing new ideas to gain speed. It's keeps things interesting and the minds of my children reaching further than they have been. It works for us this way, that does not mean that it has to be that way for you or any other builder though.

I will say this, I have built my cars in the same shapes until I try to improve, for example... wildfire, pocket rocket, cold fusion was built on the same shape... super sonic, sub sonic where built on the same shape... then I tried a new Idea and built torment, torture, and outrage all built on the same style and shape... silver streak and avalanche are built on the same shape... outburst is my new shape from the design of silver streak with curves and I am working on a super mod like outburst... this is my impute... 2fast4u P.S Rat Rod is one of a kind I will give you that one... ;D ;D

I always try to build a car faster than my previous one, because I know that if I don't... someone else will. I also know, that since I'm going to be racing in the P.D.D.R. league, that holds true more than ever. These are some of the fastest cars I have ever witnessed. ;D P.S. I don't consider myself a great builder, I just felt the need to chime in. ;D
