I had the same thought. Thinking about a 20ft test track.
What's the thoughts of the "P3 Cheap Kit". I suppose you could just leave the extra timers inside the housing and could just use one of them for a single lane track?

Thanks MGH. Those pics are exactly what I was looking for. Didn't mean to hijack the thread but figured the op might like the info also. I'm limited to the 20ft track due to my room being 23 feet long If I get one I also plan on permanently mounting it on a wall. "also my only choice due to space limitations". I should call them and price it without the stand. Maybe I can get the 28ft track cut down to 20 for expansion purposes with out a stand and level kit for a decent price.

Nicdolas,
I'm also considering " The K1 - "$35.00 Son of a Cheap Kit". If you can solder it's a heck of a deal. Especially for a one lane track!

For 55.00 it looks like you can get the circuit board assembled.

I've been trying to figure out why the 20ft track was not upgradeable. I got a reply back from best track stating it is.. After re-reading your post I understand my confusion, lol! I was thinking the track itself had an issue. Now I understand that while it is upgradeable for length and extra lanes, if you want to make it say, a 42 ft in the future you would need a new curve.. makes sense now. In my head I was thinking of buying the same curve but with a lane that was upgradeable... Anyway, guess what the discount is if you order the 22ft track with no stand...................5.00 Do they offer a discount for pddr on the 20ft anyone know? By they way in case anyone else needs to know the 20f track is 22ft 7" total..

Best Track does offer a 28ft test track as well...just a shortened version of the 35ft. I'd recommend this as opposed to the 20ft test track, as you can always upgrade a 28 or 35 foot track to increase the # of lanes or length...whereas the 20ft track only has a 2 ft hill, and a smaller support frame, so it is not as upgradable. I went with the single lane P3 cheap kit from Microwizard for $100, and have found it to be very reliable. Its not as easy to read from a distance as an LED timer, but it gets the job done. You will need to fabricate your own 'custom' enclosure though. Could the time display portion be mounted at the start instead of the finish? Then you could read it before retrieving the car. Has anyone thought about setting an extra timer at the flat section? Kind of like the 60' time in drag racing? You would be able to complare the ramp and the flat seperately.

Those Shop Velox guys added a timer at the bottom of the ramp on their test track. (and they built the fastest pinewood derby car in the world! -too bad they couldn't figure out how to ship it...) Actually, 1 more data point is a good idea, but I don't think it would be enough info to really help dial a car in because I don't think it provides enough information to pin-point the area of the track that the car needs improvement on. I'm going to start another thread on what I have in the works on this topic. Look for a thread coming soon on PWD Track Dyno...!!
