Just thinking....which can be dangerous for me sometimes. ;D
This question might be more towards Glenn or anyone with cnc lathe experience. How much slower is a good set of mold matched virgin new wheels compared to the SAME set of wheels prep on cnc lathe? I know it will vary due to the mold #, but there are some really good virgin wheels available.
You could also prep the bore for bushings and run the virgin wheels with the needle axles. Then pull them off with axles still in car, prep them in the cnc lathe and reinstall. This way you could minimized any differences associated with alignment/steer.
Has anyone tried either of these and would be willing to share results. thanks.

If your just having some fun then out of the box wheels will be fine. When your trying to make it to the top there will be no way to do it without perfect lathed wheels. There are a lot of parts in the world that are machined after they are cast. This is because of accuracy and tolerances. These little plastic wheels are no exception.
