This is for all the builders out there. I have a completed pure stock car that is pretty fast, runs at about 2.98's. I want to change the wheels and axles to 1 gr wheels. The car is obviously faster than then it had the 3.3 gr wheels, but now it is way to light. It weighs in the 4.6 oz.... Is there an easy way to add weight, or do I need to completely design a new car? The car is a 3 wheeled RR, lead weighted car. So far I have not been able to position additional weight on the car, without slowing it down. It runs fastest at 4.6 oz... Anyone else run cars that are way under weight? Thanks Nightmare

Nightmare - take a look at my SWB Stockr "Blitzkrieg". It use to be a Limited car that I raced at BGN last year. It was running 3.3 gram wheels at the time. I decided to convert it over to a Stockr and run 1 g wheels. I was faced with the same problem, under weight. All I did was cut a tungsten plate I had and superglued it under the bottom. I then finished out the final trim weight with lead golf tape. It worked fine. That car now holds the SWB Stock record here at PDDR. You should have no problem doing it that way. As far as an under weight car goes, when I 1st put the wheels on my new Stockr "Brisingr" it only weight 4.5 oz at the time. It ran a 2.922 avg on my track. After I brought the weight up to 5 oz, the avg time dropped to 2.914. I think you will get your most speed by being closer to 5 oz. Remember, gravity is your friend. Make sure you give it everything it needs (weight) to give your car all the speed (energy) it can get. Once you get all the energy, the next trick is figuring out how to keep friction from stealing it back from you.

I think there is a law of deminishing returns on weight. This past year at my sons pack race a few dads built some cars for fun. I took a car and added aditional weight, it tip the scales at 6 onces. After a few timed runs I dropped it back down to 5 onces and it ran faster times. I'm sure there are many factors that contributed to the time changes that I did not get to explore. But if your looking to add some weight to the underside of your car without drilling or routing. Swing by your local golf shop and buy a product called lead tape. It is great for fine tuning and it is arrow dynamic.
