Ok Im looking for ideas on what would be a good COM to start with. the car is a simple wedge with axle holes drilled with the block, 3 wheel RR. Righ now were at 3/4" Is this a little to aggresive for an old wooden track? We are not able to do any test runs. Thanks

We have set up RR cars on this track in the past. Right now the DFW has .08 of an oz weight. is this enough weight on the DFW?

How low is the guide strip on the track? My son and I just built a car for the cubscout derby. We won last year, setting a track record, and decided to try a rr this year. The car had a com of exactly 3/4", and was drilled with the Block, front left was not touching, and front right was dominant with a 3 1/2 degree bend. This year's car was a car length faster than last year's. In the third heat, on the outside lane of six, it skipped the track and fell four feet to the floor. It basically exploded on impact, breaking a rear wheel, bending an axle, and the weight cover flew off, dispersing lead weights far and wide. It was a gory scene. The rear right was also slightly off. Anyway, I put a new (carefully prepared) wheel and axle on, more weight, did a minor tune on a desktop, and let it fly. We ended up winning it all, not being beaten, though the car was a bit slower (rear right was migrating inward to the wood, instead of out to the head). Moral is bring spare parts. Perhaps we should have used 7/8" com, since our guide strip is very low. It steered about 3" in 30", which seemed like a lot to me, but proved to be fastest that way. Any less and the rears would fishtail. Bring a sanding block, and see if they'll let you take out bumps before the race, for the good of everyone.
