Hi. I'm 39 and I've been married for 12 years and have a 9 year-old son. I'm a stay-at-home mom (wouldn't have it any other way), but was going to school for engineering until I got pregnant. My husband is retired from BellSouth and now is a truck driver, so I'm home alone with my son about 28 days out of the month. I enjoy most anything that's "non-girly". I've always been a tomboy and could be found in a tree during most of my childhood years. I enjoy fishing, camping, and PINEWOOD DERBY! I never realized how much FUN it was until I helped my son build his first car two years ago for scouts. Boy!... I sure wish I could have done something like that when I was younger. I was in Girlscouts (yuck)... a tomboy's worst nightmare. LOL. My son is in his third year of scouts, and I will probably go into withdrawals when he can no longer race in the scout derby. Luckily, Pat Emerson told me about PDDR and viola - here I am. I haven't sent a car in YET, but will soon. Everyone here has been really nice and welcoming.
[glow=red,2,300]Watch out guys, there's a new girl in town.[/glow]

Hello All, My name is Tim Stevens, I am a Warrant Officer in the Coast Guard. (hence the uscgcwo name) I am 42 years old and have been married to my wonderful wife for 11+ years. we have an 8 year ond son and a 6 year old daughter. My son is in cub scouts and the reason I got into pine wood racing (boy am I hooked) I took it as a personnel chalange for my son and I to build a car that would be the reining champion and we did it. Unfortanatly we can't race in the district race as it is scheduled during the same time we are taking the kids to Disney. My next challenge is to build a better car. I am so hooked I think I am going to buy my own track. If my wife knew what I have spent on this hobbie she would kill me. For next years race everyone in the family will build a car as they have a "friends and Family Race' I have to wait almost a year before the next race THANKS PDDR!!!

Hello all,
My name is Brent Tye and I am part of the Tye Racing Team. I was in charge but my son Noah, Noah GoFast Racing, has booted me out and taken charge of both racing teams. He still lets me pay for all the supplies and polish the axles.
I am 36 years old, married for 11 years, 2 children- one boy and one girl,, we are currently doing the paperwork for adopting a child from China but that will take a very long time. So eventually there will be a third child in the house.
We live in Kentucky and I graduated from Eastern KY University with a degree in Chemistry. I have never used my degree but it is fun to tell people that I am a chemist turned mortgage banker. Have been in the lending business for 11 years. Anyone need a loan ;D In 2005 I started buying rental and renovation homes. This has went from a hobby to my main source of income. It was great market timing since the mortgage industry is slowing. You never know, someday i may have a KY based Flip This House show on TV. The best part is the POWER TOOLS!!!
During my scouting years I loved doing the PWD but never had adult assistance so my cars were terrible which led to me not falling in love with racing. Since my son started scouts 3 years ago, we have went from figuring out what to do, to now competing for the top spots. Compared to you guys we are still newbies but hopefully we will get better. My son has decided to make no more design cars, he wants speed and i agree. We have posted some of the weird designs we have made on this forum.
We found the pddr site while looking for car ideas on ebay. This led us to join and now my son and I are totally addicted. We talk and work on PWD everyday. My wife and daughter think we have totally lost our minds, which dampens my chances of getting of track in the basement. Shouldn't ever home have a 42ft PWD track in the basement,, i think so...
I really love the fact that the PDDR members are open to answer questions. This fact makes everything fun and more challenging.
Thanks all.

My name is John Davis and I live in eastern North Carolina. I am 39 and holding and have been married for 13 years. My wife and I have a set of twins, a boy and a girl who are 8 years old. I graduated from ECU with a BS in Chemistry and I have been working for Lenox China for 15 yrs as a Process Engineer and recently I have been moved to a lab Manager for our new analytical lab. My hobbies include of course pinewood derby racing, collecting postwar Lionel trains and fishing for speckled trout and red drum on our coastal waters. I have been racing here since June and have enjoyed every minute of it.

Well, I hate to see this thread die, so ... My name is Jason Barnard. I picked up the nickname "Barnyard" in college (NM State) when I helped start the local Pi Kappa Alpha chapter. It eventually got shortened to "Yard". Evidently that extra syllable saved comes in handy later?!
I am a mechanical engineer for Baker Oil Tools here in Houston. We make down-hole production and completion tools for the oil and gas industry. My group is sort-of the company 'skunk works'. We take new materials and products (usually from outside the oil patch) and dream up new ways to apply them to our tools and our problems. It's a great job. I love thinking outside the box. Although, it tends to get me into trouble running afoul of all the rules that tend to go along with PWD racing these days. I don't remember 1/2 of these restrictions when I was building cars (and winning races) with my dad in the early 80's!
I've been happily married to my lovely wife for nearly (10) years now and we are blessed with a son, Aaron, (8) and a little girl, Marley, (1). In keeping with the theme, the girls think we're PWD crazy as well!!! Aaron won his age division and took 3rd in his pack the first time around last year. Had we found you guys sooner we could've been racing all year and getting better! As it stands, we're in the midst of preparations for this year's PWD in a new pack. We'll have to see if they're half as competitive as the last pack down the street was last year!
Aaron and I have really gotten into things this year. I think all the help, inspiration and pictures/video that's available here is a big reason why! He's working on sponsors (the local auto shop and a plastics manufacturer to start) to try and keep costs down and get donated material. He's offering them ad space on his tool box! He's invoked Granddad’s lathe to turn his wheels for the second year in a row and even conned him into making the trip to Houston from Albuquerque since I've been recruited to do weigh-in inspection this year and won't be able to help him register! Anyway, if the cars turn out 1/3 as fast as what we've seen here and 1/2 as fast as his tool box, we'll be fine!
Words can't describe how much we're both looking forward to the pack race in (3) weeks and hopefully a season of racing in Utah as well!
Thanks in advance for all the help and inspiration! JASON
