My son has chosen this body design for this years car. Although we might make the front end more pointed instead of flat. I had some scraps of tungsten I was going to use from a friend but after seeing them I don't think they will work. What size weights would you order if you were building this design? The design shows discs or rods but I like the idea of the sweet spot or 1 large disc in between the axles. what would be my best option? Here's the kicker, I have to order it right away to receive it in time and without the body being cut so I do not know the body weight. I also will be installing with hand tools most likely. A 1" disc is very easy to do...
The car chosen is very thick...
Even with axle slots you would only need 3/8"..
With drilled holes 5/16" works great.
You could order a 3.25 ounce disc and some tungsten putty (one ounce).
Or you could just do tungsten squares but they would need you to route out the bottom of the car. WHich we use a dremmel tool with a router atachment for.
Either way is a good choice. As long as the rules allow cutting the rear axles. If not then cubes are the way to go...
Get extra wood blocks and form the weight pocket before cutting out the car.

Our rules don't say anything about cutting axles. Only " axles can't be significantly reduced".
That design is the shape we're using top view. As far as the thickness, I do plan on making it thinner for sure. The car from, last year was 7/16" at the rear, I'll shoot for that or a little slimmer. Knowing that would you buy a larger disc?
Whats the reason for cutting the weight pocket before cutting the body?

I get a safer drill on the 1" holes if I cut After drilling. Less broken blocks.
Routing is a bit better and If I destroy a block it is done before any other work goes in the car.
You should be able to squeeze in a 3.5 oz no problem... ALso get tumgsten putty for diff.
If tips of axle must show that is the same as no cutting axles...
You should have a good 3.8 ounces of tungsten /putty in the car if it is cut to 5/16"
ou cant drill out tungsten though...

You know when I read the rule " significantly reduced, I was thinking as in diameter. But I suppose that could also mean no cutting. Maybe I am better with cubes so the axles don't have to be cut?
How do you guys interpret this rule for grooved axles?
