Hi Gang. I'm new to the world of Pinewood Drag Racing, but man did the bug ever bite me hard. I recently competed in my first event a couple Saturday nights ago. Ended up taking 3rd overall. Not bad for a first timer but there really wasn't any big shots there. The old wooden track had a couple chairs and a ladder supporting it. But I digress, like I said before, I have really gotten addicted to this new hobby and am wanting to set up a track in my basement. Being on a very limited budget, like most of us are these days, I will be constructing a wooden track.(Is it possible to get a used aluminum anywhere? Does anyone ever sell them?) I have approximately 34' of space to work with in my basement. I plan on building it to have at least 32' of racing area with 24" of braking after the finish. My question is, How high above the ground is the start gate, and what is the degree of angle for the slope. Thanks. Also, has anyone ever tried covering a wooden track with a laminated racing surface, like Formica?

straight section of a best track on the starting section is 7'
angle at PDDR is 27.1 degrees.
there are all types of home made tracks out there.
i would really suggest saving your pennies and buying a best track !!!
you will eventually end up buying one anyway !!

I too have to agree. I would sae your money and buy a best track. They are the best track for the money. They are well made and easy to set up. You could get together with several people and share the cost. Then donate the track to the scouts if they only have a old wooden track. Everyone will make out then

Thanks guys. I do plan on buying a BestTrack down the road, I just don't have the money right now. I can build this temporary one for less than a hundred bucks and be racing in a week or two. Believe me, I've done a lot of research on tracks, BestTrack is the Best Track, I know. I will own one some day.

I would love to have a track. Now that I'm a member here I can get the builder discount of 50%. Plus the fact that I was dead last qualifies me for another 25% off. Plus brand new builders receive an new electronic timer while supplies last. Man this PDDR thing is really paying off! LOL!

Where are you located? I miht be able to help you out a little. Our pack is selling there old track. It is wood with a steel frame. It is in good overall condition. I think they would take as little as $150. If you are near ohio that is a deal.

Well guys I have several people interested. All I can say is it is steel framed and that the surface appeared to be in good condition the one time I saw it. The troop leader wants it gone and told me that they would sell it for $150. There is no timer. The first person that says they will come get it is going to get it. I have nothing in this other then trying to hook someone up. It is stored in a basement in a church. I of course live in New Concord, Ohio. I thought Ca$h might want it as he is local, but I am not sure.
Let me know.

as a PDDR Builder and Member, you get a discount on a Best Track. Tell me more about this discount from Best Track? How much off can you get? I am in the market for a two lane for my own testing.
