I'm always looking for something different and challenging when drawing up a new design for a car. I get an engineering design magazine sent to me at work and it always has interesting articles in it dealing with aerodynamic designs to improve race cars, speed boats, planes etc. This months issue has an article dealing with a contest involving designing the new shape/design to be used in the new indy race cars. 4 or 5 companies have submitted designs and some are pretty radical. There was one I really liked and I started thinking of how to incorporate it into a new Super Stock car. I have it drawn and it turned out pretty slick. I plan on getting started on it after Nationals. As soon as it starts to come together, I'll get some pics up.

So Carolina.........what do you do for a living? Are you an engineer, machinist, what? You sure build some nice looking and fast cars. I am really looking forward to seeing this new one. How long do we have to wait? One question I do have and I noticed a lot of your cars have them. On those rear fenders that cover darn near the whole wheel..........isn't that hard or next to impossible to stage the car properly? Actually, I'm the director of a technical/analytical lab. Sometimes I do get into some process engineering projects from time to time. As for a machinist, I taught myself on the mini lathe I have. I still have tons to learn. The rear fenders come over at an angle and leave plenty of room to stage and clean the wheels with sandpaper and a Mr. Clean pad when needed. The new car will take a couple of months at least, the trick is going to be mounting and positioning the fenders on carbon fiber braces. Should be fun. I enjoy the building more than anything else. ;D

currently I'm just skulking in the background and taking notes... although I do have an idea for a turtle car. I'm new to PWD having only helped my two boys with their Awana Grand Prix cars a couple months ago, (they won but the competition was weak). But from that came an adult competition within my church. You know what happens with a bunch of dads standing around a PWD track. We have three classes: stock, open, and unlimited. We just made up the rules for them ourselves. We figured it didn't so much matter what the rules were as long as we were all following the same ones. So I've been on here reading and learning. Good stuff...

I got the new car painted and it looks pretty cool. Carbon fiber top, purple to orange color shifting paint on the sides and the fenders. The fenders are mounted on carbon fiber braces so they sit in front of wheels and seperated away from the main body. I plan to set it up as a stocker and see what it does next month. I hope to get a few shots up soon. ;D

So far, I was not too happy with how it ran. It may take some more tinkering, don't know if it will make it this go around. I will see if something can be done on it by Tuesday morning. Got to work on a back-up car now just in case.
