I have the Proxxon Drill press and the XY table. I have drilled a few blocks with the .089" brad point drill bit, but the Jewkes axles (.091") slide in too easy. I had a block drilled by MB and his holes were a nice press fit, mine are much looser.
I am wondering if the bit is vibrating too much and is making the hole bigger? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks, Check the chuck for the roundness. Mine went out somehow while it was sitting on my desk ( I beleive someone may have tipped it over, no one is admitting it though). I had to tap it back in. Hasn't gone out since (knock on wood). Jim

W, It was #43 26100089 -$3.80 from www.wlfuller.com/html/regular_length_brad.htmlI had to order by phone. Are you thinking the drill bit may be off? Team Casmier, Sorry for the question, but how do you check the chuck for roundness? I am using the 3/32 collet chuck that came with the drill press. Thanks for any help. Jim

Jim If you have access to an indicator guage, you would place it against the check and/or a drill blank taht you know is straight ( the pin from the Block works great) and see how much movement you get. They sell them at Harbor Freight for not too much. You don't want much play in there. As I said before, they can get knocked out. Easy to fix though, just tap it back in. Side to side that is. Let me know if that isn't clear. My head isn't right now. My son loves the fact that I sound like Mickey Mouse at the moment - sinus infection and related stuff.

you have a digital caliper ? check the cutting end of bit may be marked wrong on bit I just checked my #43 bits cutting edge of bit is .088 & shank is .086(not a brad point) brad point might be slightly bigger than bit size

It could be your bit. If it's not flat it will make a bigger hole than what it measures while holding it. Recently I had to throw 2 of them out I have a some of the nice #44's and #43's from ___. I'm pretty close to you, if you want to try them send me a PM.

I have used the #43 short bits from ___ and they work. I once got oil lube on axles and they would simply fall out after that. The lube went in the hole... Alcohol on toothpics fixed that issue. Also you can get the bit in the collet wrong. I would imagine it is the bit though...
