Acme,
Can you tell if the diameter is concentric for the length of the drill?
What I mean is if you roll it on a flat surface, does the center or ends come up at any point?
I have been looking for something to use to make a longer pin. The short one gives me fits on my MicroMark drill press. It likes to slip out of the groove and snuggle at that point where the edge and the wood are.
I can't tell the angle has changed until I'm done.
Problem is on my end, nothing with the Block. Just fat fingers and a short table at the front of the drill press.

I too have a funky drill press. My table is small and it has two big slots in it. I needed a pin to span the whole table and across the slots. I was going to buy a drill blank. It was $8.00 plus shipping. So I set out to find a long bit to cut off. I never really looked for such an animal but there it was at Home Depot. I was worried about the bit being bent or not concentric the full length. But this one is right on. I rolled it on some plate glass and it's true. But I'm sure there are some out there through handling has been bent. I would just buy one and right before you pay for it roll it on something. I did notice that the table on my drill press isn't exactly flat. So it looks like I need to get my big file out and true the surface. This is just one more thing the block can do. Check for flatness.

Thanks Acme.
I'll head out to Home Depot later to see what I can find.

At Home Depot or your local hobby shop they sale 1/8" stainless steel round bar 3ft long for under $2.00. That is what I use to make my shemes for the block. It does the trick and it is straight.
