We will most likely get a track, been thinking about it for awhile. Two months of racing with you guys has made up my mind. My question is this. The location I have to put it is the top of a building behind the house. It is 45 ft diagonally. Do I get the 42 ft and place it diagonal and risk stepping over to get from one-side of the room to the other or go 35 ft and have plenty of room at one end to move around? Much difference in set-up for the two tracks?

Hello Bartez,
I have the 35' BestTrack and love it,but if there was any way that I could fit the 42' track at my house I would have done it.As far as stepping over the track you could build a step to walk over it safely. When stepping over the track my big fear is depositing some foreign debris on the track that goes unseen and causes you issues with your tuning.I would not worry much about hurting the best track as it is very stout in its design. And there would be an absolute minimal amount of difference in setting the tracks up.Hope some of this helps.

If that is all the space you have I would go with the shorter track. All you really need your track for is testing. I have a 32 foot track and can calculate almost exactly what times i will run at PDDR by the times I get on my track. If you can do that, you are all set. I would rather not have to step over the track everytime. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was leaning more to the 35 ft myself. Our pack track and district tracks were 35 ft Best and I was able to use those times to calculate what I would run on the PDDR 42 ft track. I calculated 2.980 and we ran a 2.980 exactly this month. If I ever want or need to go to 42 ft, all I will need to do is order the extra 7 ft section.

Here is my 2 cents worth if you are going to get a track... and you can fit the 42' then buy the 42' track so you can set it up when you want... but for testing for easy walking around the track just set up the 35' and you should be fine... so buy the 42' have the extra length when you need it or want it... but order an extra stopping section you will not be sorry about this one... Glenn / 2fast4u ps. nice cars by the way and great job... i see the competition heating up... ;D

Is there anyway to install a laser gate to get an instant time start? Going by the installation instructions, the cars will need to roll a couple in inches before the laser is crossed. So far I have been pleased with the standard timer switch. I finally got the track back together after installing the levelers and Dynamat. The Dynamat does wonders cutting down on the noise. I still have a couple of odds and ends to wrap up.

The gate on my track and the one at PDDR, trigger on the start gate. At the drop of the gate, the timer begins. I had a laser gate and found that the timer didn't start until the first car broke the sensor beam. Times were not right because the cars always had a "rolling" start. When I went to compete my times were always slower that I expected. Just a thought.

its hard to compare times from track to track especially if the tracks are set up & taken down the time will not be the same from time to time

2DB, How did your cars do on the 42ft Besttrack? If you buy Glenns DVD on making cars you'll be sub 3 easily. You guys might as well take the 1st place trophy home!
