Beautiful set up. I am new to the sport but am now addicted after participating in my first local event. I am actually in the process of starting a Pinewood Derby Drag Racing club for northern Indiana. We only have about 10 members now but I have high hopes for those numbers to climb. For now we are using an old home made track, but everyone has to start somewhere. My question is this, What is the official height that the track should be set at. All I can find is between 4 and 5 feet. I would like to be more specific than that, and is that the very end of the track or the starting gate? Also, the official PDDR track is 42' long. Is that the actual racing length or does that include the 80" braking area? Thanks guys. I'm really excited about this new addiction-----I mean hobby.

All in good time my friend. Remember, I'm new to this sport. I've got a lot to learn before I go up against the big boys. I'm not trying to take away from the PDDR customer base, I'm trying to train for it. You guys are the NASCAR of the sport, I'm just some back woods 3/8 mile dirt track oval.

The PDDR track is a 42 foot best track with 40 more inches of stopping... from start to finish 36' 11" ... powered by the ESS starting system... glenn...

Update on Race distance from starting pin to finish line... 36' 9-1/4".
Measurements taken from the surface of the starting peg where the car body touches to the center of the Hole for the Timer sensor.
We use the last set of holes for the Timer set up.
Remeasured it on May 6 2009 on race day ...

Yikes! I just measured my track and I'm coming up with 36' 10-13/16" Not sure where the extra 1-9/16" is coming from. I am using the largest holes for the timer, and the starting pegs are about as far back in the slots as they can get, I can only slide the pegs forward about 3/8" before the won't go through the slots. Am I doing something wrong with my setup? Can anyone else with a 42 footer like LA sound or Carolina take a measurement and post them? Here is how mine breaks down: From the pin where the car touches to the end of the start section is 76-1/16" Curve section is 40-3/4" Three straight sections at 84" Timer section is 74" to the center of the hole.

Ok, how did the PDDR decide on the track, timer, and race managment software that the PDDR runs ? Is DerbyMaster 7.0 more user friendly than GrandPrix? Whats the difference between Derby wizard timer and derby champ timer ? Thanks We are running BestTrack, Champ timer and GrandPrix manager. I'm kind of fustrated with the race manager, I find it difficult to use.

DerbyMaster has much less hype and their result pages are far more organized and the format is better looking as well. You have allot of color options to choose from for viewing, text and back ground. The MicroWizard timer have bigger numbers for the times and can be see father away than the Champs. Plus I like the small size and looks of the Wizard.
