Hey guys, I decided to document the build of my first PDDR Pure Stock entry, named DB2, after the chassis code of my '92 Integra GSR. I've already spent 3 days just in cutting, shaping and sanding the car body and fenders, and it looks like another day or so of work on the fenders (I tend to OCD a bit on details, guess you could say I'm a perfectionist). I figured since it's my first car, might as well design and build it the way I want since it won't be too fast right off the bat anyways. For this build I'm going for a sort of Formula 1 kind of style with how I incorporate the fenders. Also, I'm using the block from a PineCar kit for this first build since I don't have access to a drill press and pretty tight on the budget atm. I plan to recreate the car using a pre-drilled block for the Sept 3rd race, implementing any modifications and changes to that 2nd version of DB2. Anyways, less chatter and more photos, I'll be posting more photos as the build continues until finished. I'm planning on just going for a straight 4 wheel canted design, since I don't have a way to test and tune a rail runner yet. Enjoy the photos, and feel free to comment on anything you see. Tools used: Skill Jigsaw 6" Coping saw Dremel rotory tool File Sandpaper/Sanding block Broken 4 1/2" table vise Garage floor :-) The plans and the cutout: The "Shop": The "Shop part 2": That's all for now, more to come soon!

Thanks guys, and yeah 9DB I know that the axle slots are a big drawback, but I am planning on filling them and then drill new holes according to the heights stated in the "Going Sub 3.0". But we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping to be able to afford a pre-drilled block, some PS wheels, and a set of 91sga axles next month. Working part-time at O'reilly Auto parts and going to school full time doesn't exactly allow for much spending outside of bills. Ehh its still fun building this Pure Stocker though!

Great looking car and the fenders shape is smooth. Is there a link to the "Going Sub 3.0" info?

I use the jigsaw to make the large cuts, coping saw for the small to medium size cuts, and then my Dremel tool to do the detailed shaping.

Well, sadly it is seeming like DB2 won't be ready for August's race. I don't have a decent set of axles and wheels to put on. The kit was missing an nail, and I don't have access to a lathe to true the wheels, and a couple of them really need to be trued.
So probably what I'll do is finish the car for my girls to play with, and hopefully I can just start over next month with a pre-drilled block, set of good axles, and PS wheels.
I wish you all the best of luck in August's race and have a good time.

Alright, haven't had a lot of time to work on the car the past couple days, but here is the car with the fenders glued on then sanded down smooth to the body. I just have to finish the front fenders, glue them on and prep for paint. I also decided to cut out the axle slot areas and glue in new pieces of pine in their place to drill proper axle holes.

LOOK! no more axle slots! Now if can just figure out how I'm going to "accurately" drill the axle holes with the proper amount of cant. I really don't want to have to take off the fenders, but I have a feeling that in order to get axle holes drilled right, that's probably what I'm gonna have to do. I'm still trying to come up with a way to setup some kind of jig to allow me to drill the holes with my Dremel and achieve a 2.5 degree can't angle and straight for the front axles. I'll let you guys know what I come up with. Focal

Unfortunately I do not have The Block, nor a drill press. Though, I just talked to my boss today and he told me he has a drill press and I could use it, I'd just have to drive almost an hour to his house. lol So I'm gonna try and make time to drive out there in the next couple days.
I feel the clock starting to tick, as it nears the August race date... the pressure is on. This build has definitely been a challenge with the lack of proper tools and accessories. But I'm still working on getting the car there.

Focalenergy,
I just want to say that you have done an excellent job on this car and you are almost there my friend. I would recommend the following setup considering you have fenders on the car already. Trying to drill canted holes post fenders with no block is going to be a challenging task and it could result in a disastrous outcome. I would drill all 4 holes as straight as possible. Then I would follow the steps in the "3 Wheels Canted Thread" for bending an axle provided by 5 Kids. First you should prep the axles as ___ "John" mentioned in an earlier thread of yours. If possible cut a Khouse grove on the head if you have the tools to do it. This makes adjusting the axles a snap. Now after you have the axles ready I would use the following steps to align your car:
1) Install the 2 rear axles with wheels at a negative cant. Then install the front dominant wheel with a straight axle. Align car so it will role in a straight line over a couple of feet.
2) After car is aligned to role straight. Remove FDW straight axle and Install bent axle and wheel with a positive cant. Set the car up to steer 6" over 6 Ft.
3) If setting the car up to rail ride is a new adventure. Setting it up to run straight with canted rear wheels is also a safe bet.
I wish the best of luck my friend on your first race. Just remember you've come a long way and I assure you the PDDR family is routing for you and if you stick with it you will become one heck of a racer.

Well guys, Minus attaching wheels, axles and tuning DB2 is complete. But unfortunately I've had a lot of distractions lately and haven't had time to focus on finishing in time for the race. Plus I didn't have easy access to a scale to weigh my car. But I got the opportunity to order some red wheels, a digital scale, a few pwd specific tools, a bunch of BSA wheels and axles to work with, and some tungsten weights. It has been decided that the entire family will be entering individual cars for September 3rd race. So there will be four Pure Stockers hitting the track, plus an improved version of DB2 for the stock division I hope. In the mean time enjoy this photo of DB2 with out it's clear coat yet.
