I want to re-drill my rear axle holes. They are drilled straight and I would like to cant them. What is the best way to do this or is it better to just build another car? Thanks in advance for your help.

I hate to hear that...I have a car that is irreplacable..but the back axle holes are jacked. I guess it is going to remain a show piece til someone comes up with a better solution. ugh

Classy,
How about changing the wheel base on your car. I know there are many factors to consider when trying to do that kind of modification. Is it "Autumn Blaze"? That has always been one of favorite cars since you asked for a little help naming it!

Sparky, I have re-drilled a few times as well, and have made it work. However, it's a tricky thing, and if you are drilling canted holes (The Block), you need to be sure the bottom is perfectly flat so that there isn't a shift due to paint, weights, glue, etc. One other thought is to overdrill the hole. I have taken 3/16 dowel rod and overdrilled my body straight through to get some solid wood all the way through. Glue in the dowel rod, make sure it's flush with the side body, and re-drill with the block. Of course, if you have already painted the car, this is not easy to do. Good luck. O.R. Be sure to test out the fit between the dowel rod and the hole made from your drill bit. Dowel rods, as well as "standard" dimension lumber tend to run a little short. You would hate to find a loose fit after drilling the car. Just start over, it's just pine ...

I created a slot at the rear, about 3/16" wide and deep, got some special epoxy from my builder/carpenter that once dry, was super hard, then sanded the filled slot both at the bottom and the sides. When I re-drilled the new cant holes, I drilled super slow (because you don't want the speed to clog the drill bit or the sides of the new hole. I haven't raced the car yet, but on my test track, the new times are significantly better than before. I have run about 12 test runs. Good luck, it worked for me.
