Ok, my Pack is running a 3 lane wooden track with a NewBold timer and microswitch start. I want to upgrade them to an aluminum track. I am considering the Freedom anodized and the Besttrack.
Background: District runs a 6 land 35' Besttrack with lift and level kit. Pack runs a 3 lane 32' wooden track. I am funding the purchase myself with a possible fund raising event (Outlaw racing)
Pros for Freedom anodized: Easier prep initially Hard surface anodized Easier storage Faster runs Easier cleanup
Pros for Besttrack: District runs one, makes the Pack the same. Beefy Price is cheaper even over unanodized Freedom
Most of you guys lean towards the Besttrack, I know. I am thinking of long term maintenance and helping the Pack in the long haul.
Opinions?

Get the three lane Best track...
Dont over think it...
You will have the same track as district which is awesome. You will have a great track.
I am pretty sure you dont want an anodized track

I realize that I am a newbie to this game but what ever track you decide on go with the non-anodized. Over time the coating will get scratched and you or who ever takes care of the track after you will not be able to repair or smooth out the scratch and have it look good, also if they use the wrong cleaner it will remove the coating.

As the previous poster mentioned...
Anodized is not the way to go....
The ideal setup would be a 3 or possible 4 lane Best Track.
If money allows a Jewkes Engineering ESS System which everyone loves.
Then a second stop section or have David Jewkes build you a stop section just like the PDDR one. THe SPEED Trap. That would be the ultimate...
Races actually go faster on a three lane track. (If you do two runs in each lane.) They are also easier to keep the lanes even.

I own a 4 lane Freedom Anodized track that I bought back in 2006. I like it very much. However if I was to do it over again I would get a 3 lane 42' Besttrack. Heres why.
Ease of set up. The Besttrack just set up faster. The joining plates on the Freedom require slot of adjusting to make sure you get a smooth transition from section to section.
For the Freedom 40', I have to install 40 1/4" screws to join the five sections. On the Besttrack, you slide the sections together and then clip them.
The Freedom has a "naturally formed" curve. To make this work, you have to put the first two sections on their side, then with the help of a second person, lift it upright, place the weights in it's rack and adjust it so it sets properly. The Besttrack with it performed curve, again allows the sections to be slide together and clipped with just one person doing it.
My friends 4 lane 7' section Besttrack is lighter then my 4 lane 8' section so the Besttrack is easier to move around. I have not weighed the sections, this is just from moving them around.
I would go with a 3 lane over a 4 lane. With a 4 lane, each boy can run 4 or 8 times (twice in each lane). Most boys seem to want more than 4 races, but seemed to be bored at 8 races. With a 3 lane the would race 6 times and seem to be at a happy medium. Of course you will have boys that are bored at the first race and the boys that never get bored with any amount of racing, like all of us .
Oh yeah, one more thing. The rigidity of the Besttrack eliminates the need for the wooden spaces to make the running surface level. Again more set up time for the Freedom.
Don't get me wrong, I have been happy with my Freedom Track. It has served me well and if someone but it, they would be happy, but I rent it out where I go and set it up and run races for packs, last year was 25 races, so ease of set up becomes a factor. Both are good but like I started off with, doing it over again, I would get a 3 lane 42' Besttrack with a Microwizard timer and a Jewkes ESS start gate.
Just my 5 cents.

Thanks for the insight into the track setups and your experiences. Now all I have to do is get the PDDR coupon deal for when I order it later this month.
Thanks everybody!
